Teleportation and no incentive to even be outside, except for leveling, makes it that way. Add to the fact that like someone said not a single place is actual wilderness because the closest encampment is 20 seconds away and you have a world which is quite well made, but completely useless and feels extremely small. It really is sad to see that people don't see anything except doing an instance as not "wasting time". "I have to be able to teleport everywhere and directly into instances because I pay to play this game not waste my time" is far too common a phrase to hear nowadays, which is funny considering all they do is grind the same boring dungeon just to have it be completely useless when the next patch comes around. Thank god for EQN, I just hope they do what I think they will and make the whole game be part of the journey and not just instances and endgame. Seems like they have realized a lot of us are getting bored with the previous mmo generation and that they are aiming higher.

I bet that's why I've been crafting so much compared to what I did in 1.0 - sitting in one place inside a large city makes you forget how small the world outside the gates feel.

While I agree that teleportation makes the world feel small, I'd have to say the biggest reason it feels small is because it is small. Not small in terms of how big the zones are, but the fact that there are so few of them. FFXI had small outlet zones connected to the bigger ones. Things like Crawler's Nest connected to Rolanberry and Giddeus connected to Sarutabaruta. The current maps could also use some loving. I've seen lots of places that are cut off from exploration that could be expanded upon in the future, I just hope SE doesn't forget about them.

Although small, I believe world would feel bigger if it was not instanced.

Agreed so much with this. Very disappointed in the lack of going out on an adventure. Whenever you leave a "Sanctuary" it feel less like going into "the wilderness" as it does feel like "going down the block". I miss the long engrossing adventuring from past FF's. And I'm not just talking about XI. I miss traversing multiple regions and areas just to get to the next city in VII. The seemingly never ending fields of VIII, and IX oh man IX kicks the pants out of most recent SE games in the "adventuring" department.

It's not just with XIV but almost all of SE games have been following this "smaller & faster" mentality to zones. Remember the first Kingdom Hearts games where some zones had multiple exits and entrances and were almost a maze like design where you could get lost and wonder around in finding little secrets tucked away? Then going to KH2 where everything is a straight path from point A to point B? I don't know why they think it's so much better. Especially since it's NOT the only way to pull in casuals. Skyrim with it's what 14+miles sized overworld sold 10+ million copies so I think it shows plenty of casuals do enjoy going out into massive wilderness and getting lost in it.

In my opinion, we need some more content other than FATEs in the Open world area.
I mean FATEs are nice, but there's much more potential to the areas.

I'm looking forwards to see what this Beastman thing is and how the treasure hunting works in 2.1.
In the future I would like to see something like small battles for control of an Area against beastmen/Imperials (I think FFXI did that with their expansions and Conquest.)

I wish they would come back with the Anima for teleportation. Gill is to easy to earn. Anima was great because it regenerated slowly so you actually had to ration it instead of just teleporting willy nilly.

The tears this would generate would drown the world in a Noas Arc biblical calamity the likes that Eorzia has never seen before. If you thought Bahamut was bad the wrath of scorned teleportation users would make him look like a mere kitten.
