To top that off I had been doing AK for a while (after completing the GC Darkhold quest before I even set food into Aurum Veil.

As far as difficulty. I can definately see where it can be a pain as it requires planning an communication to complete (use the fruits at the right times, etc).
I read they changed it actually so that the GC sends you to the Vale now instead of Amdapor.

Granted I unlocked AK through the AV route so i'm not positive if your GC will still send you to AK to unlock it.

I've run it 7 times so far, and each one keeps wiping till the clock runs out. This last one lag was an issue for everyone but me for some reason. Regardless, anyone else find Aurum Vale much harder than it should be? I mean my GOD! Ultima Weapon went by with a lot less of a headache than this place DX
    1. Bring AoE DPS if possible.

    2. Avoid bringing arcanists if possible, though I see that you're an arcanist. Arcanists have a tougher time because they can't make their pets eat fruit.

You need at least 1 and ideally 2 members with good AoE DPS. If you're a SCH, you probably want both of your DPS to have this. If you're a WHM, you can help with Holy.

Pretty much this. Holy is amazing in that fight.

Always seems to be a tough fight to me, though it seemed like everyone else would tell me how hard Coin Counter was and that he was harder than the final boss in AV, while the groups I ran with would always down him no problem.

I've only run that dungeon 3-4 times, and was only successful about 2-3 of them, and now that I think about it, I think the DPS were always melee dps (I was either healer, or Summoner, which doesn't have any helpful AOEs at that point). When we scraped through, it usually involved me desparately slamming swiftcast and then spamming Holy on the eggs. Those have to go, you can't let those hatch. But because I had to take up healing AND aoeing the pods, it usually got down to the wire every time because I'd run out of MP.

I did it once just cuz I like doing dungeons atleast once. I don't recall having any problems at all, one guy had done it and stated mechanics and we did it no problem. Guess I was lucky? Really don't remember it being hard, might go in again just to see what all the fuss is about.

I have done this dungeon as SCH several times, I only failed duty once because our DDs weren't being fast enough on adds for final boss. Some tips for Scholars:

    1) DoT, DoT and some DoTs. It's not that hard to keep up the usual DoTs on the last boss. Makes battle a little bit faster.
    2) Cleric Stance + Miasma II + Ruin II for seedlings on last boss. This depends on whether or not your tank can take some hits. Sure your attacks won't do much damage and might even go unnoticed but it's never a bad idea to help out.
    3) On the fist boss, you might want to forget about your fairy it's a pain keeping her alive.
    4) Don't be afraid of Succor, the shield is a great way to prevent some damage from time to time.

More like obvious things that SCH should do, but some might find that information useful.

I have posted a quickly typed guide from Paladin PoV (as that is my experienced class) that I hope you will find informative in the Dungeons section that can be found here:

Also, the new way it has been setup is that if you are now getting to the GC questline after you complete the Dzemael Darkhold GC quest, the next one will send you to Aurum Vale titled "Gilding the Bilious." The Amdapor Keep quest is now given by Nedrick (the one outside Waking Sands who gives you Relic quest as well as the optional dungeons up to this point.) GC no longer will send you to AK.

I find AV to be really easy though I can kill all the pods by myself so they never come into play. Basically whenever you see the morbol starts walking away, that means the pods are going to hatch and just stop everything you're doing and prepare to kill the pods. You can usually AE on the morbol to hit all the pods if the tank isn't moving him. You only get 2 attacks in before they hatch, so make your 2 casts count. The fight is pretty trivial if the adds don't hatch, and if they do, all I can say is good luck.

Aurum Vale isn't a particularly tough dungeon in general, but for a few reasons it's an absolute nightmare for pet classes:

    1. Pet AI isn't smart enough to keep them from standing in acid pools until they die or are manually moved.

    2. Pets don't get damage mitigation for DoT abilities like they do for normal damage, combined with;

    3. Eating fruit during boss battles doesn't cleanse DoT stacks from your pet along with the player.

For SMN this means a big chunk of their damage is lost when their pet inevitably dies (and then has to be re-summoned), and for SCH not having a fairy out cuts into healing output by a huge amount.
