I'm not too sure where this opinion comes from to be honest. In line with the thread's generalisation of the community, I would say that tanks are the rudest most belligerent class I tend to come across. Most likely due to your number two point "we're a dying breed." Tanks know they can talk to and treat people however they want, because people need them. So we just have to put up with it.

Again I would like to reiterate that I am simply generalising in line with the thread, as I have of course met many tanks who were polite decent people like everybody else. However in terms of which group of people I've found to be rudest to me personally, tanks all the way I'm afraid.

as a tank, you don't generally interact with other tanks in a 4man dungeon, outside of primal battles where either it's 3 shot or it's not happening.

as a healer, they don't generally interact with other healers...

See how that works?

as a dps...you get tanks yelling at you for sleep pulling,
yelling at you for pulling agro on boss when it's at 30%...
yelling at healers when THEY are the ones that break sleep...
can go on...
i have seen plenty nice tanks, also seen healers who don't heal DD, generally it's the tanks making threats "pull once more and i leave" ....i pull with sleepga after tank starts running up to the enemies...some tanks go out of their way to break sleep.
then wonder how the healer got agro when they don't know where their aoe emnity spells are...
on my SCH i've had my fairy tanking...without even forcing it to spam heals...

rude tanks are common, rude healers slightly less so,
and lazy DD who wouldn't be able damage their way out of sastasha at 50(if level sync didn't exist) are kind of common as well.

if one of the 3 is in a party it's tolerable...but get 2 or 3 of those types combined?

really it'snot as much of a tank said this or heals said that, or DD can't do enough damage...

it's bad players people...different types..different levels...but just bad.

a 50 legacy mage asking me for help on the level 45 class quest...because he keeps dying...turns out he didn't know astral ice restores mana...seriously? how'd he do the previous class quests????????

Whoa, I think that's your problem. If it isn't established and okay with everyone in the party, you shouldn't be pulling with sleepga. Doing it AFTER the tank has pulled and established hate on everyone I can see, but pulling with it shouldn't be done unless the tank and everyone else is okay with it.

I'd just like to point out that as a tank, the tank couldn't be the rudest person to you. Unless, of course, you yell at yourself when you mess up.

To sum it up, there are dicks all over the gaming community. There is a certain sense of entitlement that comes with being or having something that is desired and many people fall prey to it. Be it a tank in a sea of DD, a relic+1 and full Allagan DD, or a healer that is used to groups that don't take unnecessary damage. They are rude to people because they are rude people. That isn't going to change.

You're both right. It's why I have a healer and a tank.

They are the worst and I can only ever get away with avoiding one of them... unfortunately. As a tank, it's healers bad mouthing gear, refusing to heal and then blaming you for deaths... tanks are loud mouthed and rude or whatever.

Some tanks are awesome... some healers are awesome. People are people, you know? When you have high demand classes, they will attract the worst people for free spots in groups (because no one would tolerate them otherwise).. but it doesn't mean they are all that way.

In the end, players are people and there's no reason to treat other people badly over a video game. That won't change the fact that many foul mouthed, immature, and vulgar teenagers and kids play this game.

Well I'm a healer and usually the rudest people I meet and the one that usually abandons because of one wipe is a tank..... lol....

That said, this is a game and the general rule is don't be a dick. We're all here for fun, some of us are newer at certain things and would love a little help. I don't care if this is your 1000th run on something, understand that sometime's it's someone's first or second.

As someone who plays all 3 roles, this. It may go a bit slower than you like, but it's not the end of the world because of it.

Buuuuut it is rocket surgery for many people. Quite a lot of players have a lot of trouble being empathetic to others and simply cannot comprehend that someone has not done the content before. If one cannot put him/herself in another's shoes (or is just incredibly impatient), you get the whole petty online harassment for being "bad" at your job's role in the game.

I also love the "did you at least watch a video?" question, usually the answer is "No" and the person who asks proceeds to rage. If they get a "Yes", they expect everything to be perfectly smooth because it just always does. But watching video =/= actually doing the content, it rarely goes perfectly well the first time around and then they rage about it going poorly.

This +1. I rarely hear a dps berating a tank, since the tank can leave and get a instant que while the DPS would have to eat a 45 minute + wait. Even if the tank was terribad.

It also doesn't work out well when the tank completely ignores advice and is a general jerk.

Things I usually ask a tank to do/say to the tank:

1. Please mark the targets (when I notice every dps is swinging at a different mob after the first)
2. (If for some reason the fight ended prematurely and he still has regen on) Please cancel your regen by right clicking so I don't get hate on the next pull
3. I notice you have a i20 weapon when you're level 34. You can get a cheap replacement for less than 1k gil in the auction house.
4. You're level 35 and still Gladiator/Warrior. Do you need assistance / information on how to become a paladin/warrior?

And the usual response from the tank is "STFU NUB".
