I agree with you 100% Xatsh, I cant stress enough how the people go on a rampage when something doesn't go there way. And then they cry over it and saying how SE won't turn this game around speech. I'm totally in agreement with you.1.18 will most likly fail horribly because people are going to go into it with the mentality that it will fail, and they will focus on the negatives instead of the improvements.
-the dungeons will not be FFXI/WoW (depending on your stand) so they fail
-the quest they will add are not up to FFXI/WoW so they will fail
-the autoattack will not be good enough
-The companys will fail because they are not one of the following: Player run, give epic enough SP, are not solo enough, are not group oriented enough.
-They are screwing soloers the game has failed
-They are focusing too much on soloers and screwing partying... lmfao world of final fantasy...
Because of the crap I listed above 1.18 will be a fail in most peoples eyes, so will 1.19, so will 1.20, so will 1.21. People thinking everything will fail I hate to tell you for you the game has failed, square will never fix it in your eyes... you should quit now. Those who have want it to work and have half a brain look at this forum and you too will see how stupid almost every complaining thread is atm.......
People want change and they want it all now, they will not get it. Every patch has improved things in the game. That list of stuff Yoshi-p gave us will not be 1 update, it will not be 2 updates, I highly doubt it will even be 3 updates.
If people can not handle that it might take another 4-5 months to get everything in they need to quit now. Saying I will quit, people will quit, the game is dying release patches now will do nothing, it helps the devs in no way form or fashion, and honestly this is why so many where opposed to an official forum on Zam and Core, because atm next to nothing good comes from the NA section of this forum... it is just 1 huge QQ fest and it is actually hurting the game more then helping.
This forum rage about a hot patch.... it was even said it would be small and they MIGHT BE CONTENT, not they would be content. The fact that so many expected a huge content patch is just pure stupidity by definition.
The only people who said we would get content is the NA player base... so Yoshi did not lie in this patch, the NA player based played itself as fools once again for expecting something other then what SE promissed.
It cant be bad in the least bit unless you absolutely dreaded Final Fantasy XI's system. Granted, the director is from XI now and said that it wouldnt be that similar to XI aside from auto-attack (and even then much faster than XI's delays), but at worst, it'll just be a faster XI battle system with some new additions. I dont think too many people would rail against that.
EDIT: Actually here is the real letter -
"We finished patch 1.17 and 1.17a, and with that same vigor we start on patch 1.18.
Patch 1.18 is really big, and because we have to steadily work on the balance adjustments, we predict that the interval between patches will take longer than previous patches. Even if in the meantime we have the possibility to release a subsequent patch 1.17b , it looks like patch 1.18 itself will be released on or after mid-June. I'm sorry."
The TRUE question is why do the official S-E translators for the NA site insist on adding extra wording that wasnt even in the original text. Localization I can understand, but dont make a sentence that completely undermines the original statement.

well this is my take on letter IX.
ok nowhere did it say we were gonna get dungeons in 1.18, but rather said its on the way and 1.18 will be battle adjustments. then he goes on talk about the encampments .But good things come to those who wait! Dungeons designed for ranks 30 and 50 are on their way, and 1.18 will see the start of our reworking of the battle system
so from this I gather we will definatly be getting encampments in 1.18 and beast tribes will more than likely wait until 1.19.From top to bottom, those are encampments in the Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ul'dah regions. In this way, we’re going to gradually increase the number of public areas with quest hubs. We also have some beast tribe versions in the works, but it’s looking like those will have to wait until 1.19.
This is where things get too vague, he said in mid-may so by that I would have assumed we would have already had grand companies.Come mid-May, the vanguards of the Grand Companies will be the first to brave Eorzea’s newly discovered dungeons.

Issue is everything else coming out is fail as well... nothing but online solo game filth that people are putting a mmo stamp on to sell copies.
FFXIV dies so does the genre more or less... new mmos are not even true mmos they focus on nothing that make the game a mmo besides the fact it is online...
Vangaurd is "those who go first" and this is what he means (unfortunately):well this is my take on letter IX.

Updated Company List
Sorry he got your hopes up. I hoped it would be an in-game event. Basically, the first explorers of the dungeons are going to be representatives of the Grand Companies and their testimonies available to the players on Lodestone. (Yay). Actually, I like the whole world concept they are building with Lodestone "immersion" updates, in game events, Alfgar & the GM-run Prophet. It's all pretty cool, but disappointing when you're expecting something more.
well I have to give them credit for keeping us in the loop about things in the forum. they have taken an extraordinary effort on communication with the fan base.

personally I'm not partial to an auto attack feature i kinda like actually pressing something lol it makes me feel like I'm playing something rather than waiting for one to kill the other. But with a higher difficulty level it will be interesting to see how it will all come together.

More than anything, I'm looking forward to the Battle System changes. Moreover because it'll be an important change that will determine if this game is going the right way (meaning: if it'll be still a lot of fun).
After the Battle System changes, of course the new dungeon(s). I'm expecting something badass!
