There are anti gouging laws, but that's about it. There's not really anything done to keep prices high except import taxes and tariffs; but that doesn't apply here because there's no way to trade goods across servers except paying for character transfers constantly. And we all know that would become prohibitively expensive. If anything, prices are regulated to be kept lower. No, it doesn't. There are laws limiting monopolies (which don't apply here; with the possible exception of camping limited spawns, which is not what's being complained about here, nobody has a monopoly on the FFXIV market) and the market prices in a few limited items are regulated but by and large, a merchant is free to set any price he thinks proper. Which is as it should be. Attempts by governments to control prices across the whole economy have...not ended well.
First off, don't start your post by being an ass. You feel that the OP and those that feel the same are idiots and the Wal-Mart / Target analogy is what you use to back up your opinion/insult? Well cupcake, it appears that in your haste to insult others, you overlooked the fact that there is nothing arbitrary about those retailer's pricing models. Each company employs an army of people in possession of various business, economics, & marketing degrees who invest a great deal of time and money conducting market research, negotiating with suppliers, etc. in order to determine what they will sell and for how much. These companies, as competitors, also work together in a sense in that each will not continually reduce their prices just to sell their product(s) faster than the other because if they did, soon neither would be able to profit. Now I'll go out on a limb and say that the larger percent of FFXIV's populace lacks any of the degrees mentioned above and their knowledge of economics doesn't extend beyond the basic understanding of supply and demand. The beauty of the way the auction house worked in FFXI is that a player was only able to look up the sales history to give them an idea of where to to begin the bidding. By doing this, if a player listed an item whose history shows a price range of 500k - 550k for 100k just to sell fast, they'd likely end up getting that 500k or 1 gil less.
You guys do realize that the FFXI servers are still online, right? I mean, you really seem to want to play that game so bad, so why don't you just go play it. Because you seem to be forgeting one simple fact about FFXIV. IT. IS. NOT. FFXI. Deal with it.

says the ultra pro lvl 38. you know what its like to be 50 and work the market right?? ohhhh wait, no you don't
Is this supposed to mean something to me? Because I don't really care about being lvl 38. It's a number. However, I have noticed that just about everyone bitching about how easy it is to get to lvl 50 and it should be harder to get there just so happens to be lvl 50 already. Hmmm.... I think there might be something fishy going on there.

And how does this effect you? Why does craft leveling speed really matter? While im at it. Its to easy to high quality items as well. It is to easy for people to level crafting as they can just turn in items bought off markets and get triple exp from the leve quest or double triple exp from the ones you can turn in 3 times for one leve. I had to grind my exp the ol fashion way in 1.0 now everyone is a master craftsman. And fates give way to much exp anyone can go 1-50 in a day can u say ffxi abyssea ruined the game time come on where is the curve. fix all this crap i like most of the game but this stuff needs to go.
Because. If those changes they want get made, then this person; who, by the by, has every class except Arcanist, Fisher, and Botanist at lvl 50 already, will be one of those few people up there already in a game that is suddenly much harder to get to that level. And with the changes they want made to the markets in place this would then leave them in the position of being one of very few high level crafters capable of reliably making high quality or high level items and therefore able to charge whatever the hell they want for them. That's why it matters to them. Because if it gets done, it leaves them being the only ones able to actually make any gil. I'm sorry, but fuck you. Leave the free market alone. It works.

Actually the FFXI system allowed people to monopolize the markets and inflate the prices for high-demand items not to mention it greatly benefited the RMT business.
These are the 2 main things they are trying to avoid in XIV and it's working pretty good imho. I am sorry that some of you are not getting as rich as fast as you would like but the Market Wards are meant to benefit the Buyers not the Sellers. As long as the Seller is still making money off the items they sell, then "it is working as intended".
Charge a "fair" price and your items will sell. Charge top dollar and they either won't sell or you'll have your gil confiscated because only gil-buyers will pay those inflated prices.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.

Wow, that attitude. Sorry but this idiot doesn't agree with you.You guys are idiots. That's how a free market works. Do you guys really believe that Wal Mart doesn't know what Target charges for any item that they both sell? Or vice versa? I haven't had any problems selling and I don't sit in front of my retainer all day. The market works exactly the way it is supposed to. If you don't like it, go play a different game.
Wal Mart doesn't sell stuff for less than it cost them, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, don't compare a game with RL.
I agree with the OP that crafting is a bit too easy and especially leveling up a craft is far too easy. It shouldn't be possible to level a craft by turning in items bought from AH.
That's like DoW/DoM could buy dead monsters and trade them for EXP.
Undercutting will always happen, no matter what.
The only thing you can do about it is to stop selling stuff if you would get less than it costs you to make.
