    All you ever care about is "oh that's not convenient enough" whenever someone suggests somethign immersive. But when someone wants to implement jumping or if someone wants to implement FUN, then, what do ya know, convenience is no longer a good reason to implement those things.

    At least jumping is REAL.

    Running through mobs and people is just ridiculous. I dont want to play a game with a bunch of ghosts. That ruins my immersion and I dont care if you think its not convenient enough for you.

    If the only thing that was important in a game was convenience, then there would be no game. It would just be an automatic win button.

    Is that what you really want? Is it? Is that what you really want? An automatic win button?

    What? Have you ever looked at the monsters in this game? Have you ever studied their movements down to their eye movement? That you can literally see their joints and tendons moving realistically? The monsters in this game are pretty creative for what they are.

    That's a large step up from most MMO monster design. Maybe you're confusing creativity with a lack of proper aggro mechanics.

    Nobody denies that SE put alot of effort into NPC and PC animations and visuals. But the interaction and behaviourism of the mobs and players is the problem.

    Everything is dead.

    What's the point of trying to mimic life when you make everything dead and a ghost?

    I'm inclined to agree with the OP on this. Without the collision detection, creatures and other players seem like ghosts.

    I preferred FFXI's collision detection. Sure you got stopped by things, but if you kept pushing for a second or two, you could walk through them.

    I don't see why this approach wasn't used in FFXIV. Its really the best of both worlds.

    After watching Jurassic park, they should have done this with Raptors:

    You attack a raptor that you believe doesn't suspect you, and when you attack, two more come at you from the sides and you find yourself being triple-teamed. :O

    That would actually be pretty cool to see, but it would start to suck after a while since it'd be too hard to beat them :P

    Well it was in the game since beta, but then the first thing Yoshi did was remove mob behaviour and collision detection because "he just felt like it."

    And then he increased mob size "because he just felt like it".

    Basically, Yoshi's mentality is the more unrealistic the better.

    Maybe that's why we can't jump too, because it would be too realistic.

    That would be cool, and they should be able to open doors and speak to eachother. Rather than aggroing on sight or smell, they track your footprints and actively seek you out. And when you die they eat your corpse.

    Yikes, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

    What we had before isn't true collision. True collision is when you literally cannot pass through another NPC/PC/monster. The stuff we had before is somewhere halfway between no collision and collision, which was extremely awkward in a lot of ways. Getting caught on a monster that just decided to change positions made me want to toss my controller at the screen, especially if I was busy running my ass away from another monster.

    Real doesn't always imply more fun, but convenient DOES.

    For the record, I'm all for jumping (which is both real AND convenient), and no, I don't want an automatic win button. But good job with the strawman arguments.

    they used this approach until...not sure, maybe until the March patch, they removed the collision

    No. He removed it because people were complaining about it. Most MRD's were complaining about hitting mobs they shouldn't because they didn't know how to control their AoE or because goats/dodos/monkeys were following them.
