Is neat where you swig it out of the bottle till you pee in your pants, and wake up with golden corral vomit all over you? If so, yea that's the way I like it too.
Oh boo hoo, the world doesn't revolve around you. Who would of thunk it!
News flash! In the end its still a company, and a company's point is to profit... why would you ever even consider catering to the minority when it's essentially a numbers game always in the end.
Sorry snowflake!
well said, OP.
FFXIV is not a hard core gamer's dream. To the people being belligerent and rude to people, you picked a game with kiddy graphics, who did you expect to show up? That you have no social life and have been grinding for the last 100 hours does not give you the right to be a terrorist. On the other hand, if you think people should meet your exacting standard...you got it, that's what FCs are for! So, get with reality.
On the other hand, WoW did do the hard mode and normal mode thing right. I wouldn't mind seeing that kind of dynamic here too, since I do like something other than a guaranteed win for gear check.
News just in people like different things. Ketchup on Quality Steak is popular. Ice in Scotch is popular and Scotch and Water is not only popular but it lets you taste things in the drink that you cannot taste straight.
People play how they want.
One thing that always gets me is this. People scream for challenge, a guy enters a dungeon and he would make the running of the dungeon harder. People run screaming from the challenge.
Next day when their perfect groups find content too easy they cry about needing more challenge.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a casual player, but still expect to earn my way through the game, and not have everything handed to me on a silver platter cut up for me by mommy (or SE in this case). SE should have stuck to their roots. FFXI is a legendary MMO, all they had to do was take the concepts from that and improve on it and bring the platform up to date.
Instead we get this WoW clone made for A.D.D bearing kids... ERMERGAWD, I gotta earn my stuff! Who would have thought that a few years ago when I started hearing about this WoW game that was soloable, would ruin MMO's forever....... Why the hell did SE even try to be like that pathetic game? They did fine using their own concepts.
I remember when progress in these games meant something. Now it's just race to endgame the first week of release, and battle mechanics with no variety, or just a DPS race if you will. No skills chains, no magic bursts, just rotation fighting. Yay!!!! I mastered my one rotation! How mindless is that?
All I know is somebody, (I was hoping it would be SE with this title), would come out with a real MMO that could emulate the fun I had in FFXI. Forget what these kids nowadays want, they have proven that their demands aren't capable of producing a respectable game design. Make a real game, those people are only ruining gaming and lowering expectations to levels I never would imagine happening to gaming.

I doubt it. It's just that casual people seem far less likely to come on forums or spam a chat channel with things like "omfg SE! Stop catering to the hardcore!!". Yes you get the odd few, but most "casuals" don't care, or don't have time, to mingle with this community. They just want to relax and play.
There isn't just one group for each casual and hardcore style of play. I play a lot that I fall into a "Hardcore Casual" section.
I'm gonna guess you are an absolute joy to be around IRL also.
By the way, what you are arguing is akin to a chef at a restaurant saying well I know only .5% of my customers like offal, so think its probably wise to serve nothing but offal to make sure that .5% of my customers are happy. I'm sure that restaurant will thrive. Meanwhile the pizza joint across the street, well, they know what people like.
Edit: to the few responders suggesting there is some great demand for a ridiculous hardmode grind of an MMO.....if there was such a demand, it would be filled. The fact that its not being filled answers your question pretty resoundingly.
Edit 2: Interesting note, while thankfully only encountering a limited number of them, every self proclaimed know it all type I have encountered in Duty Finder, also tends to quit on their parties far more then others. Funny thing is, once they are replaced, everything goes smoothly. Fun note. ^^
