I don't understand why Guildhests are a one-time bonus... they should give at least 80% of the EXP that an equivalent FATE would give and there should be a first-time completion bonus for each class.

Didn't Yoshi-P say that Guildhests would be a leveling solution for people looking to party-grind?

    I wonder what happened.... :/

I have the same problem as the OP. At low levels there is very few people around. If it were my 1st class, there would be no problem cause at the beginning I had a lot of rewarding quests, but not anymore.

And fates, I need to solo them all, there is too few around to help (or interested in helping). Not to mention that it takes several minutes for each spawn.

So from reading this thread, that the best way to level a sub class is by chaining mobs?

I'll tell you what happens... running around as a level 7 Lancer struggling to gain experience because nobody is doing Fates and the Fates don't scale properly for me to solo them.

I'm on a very populated server (Behemoth) and as of right now, Central Shroud and Western LaNoscea are both empty with roughly 6-7 people in them, and nobody is doing fates.

I'm asking you, how do I level? my hunting log alone isn't enough and since I've done every quest on my 50 and nobody is doing fates, what can I do?

    you want my suggestion?

    1. Scale Fates, if nobody is around I should be able to solo it.
    2. Reset Guild Hests and Side Quests when you switch class
    3. Add more monsters to each hunting log bracket, or increase EXP gained by 100%.
I agree with you. There needs to be more ways to level alts.

Let's say that you want to take that alt up all the way to 50 rather than just for cross class skills. At 50, you're going to run into a giant contradiction between the armory system which encourages switching classes / jobs and performing many roles and the endgame system which discourages that altogether with a weekly cap on myth currency (which limits you gearing up more than one job) and Coil having lockouts (which again limits gearing multiple jobs). So you either focus on one, half-focus on more than one and take forever to gear up, or just accept that if you play more than one class that doesn't share gear, you're going to have very poor progression.

Then of course is the problem with actually leveling to 50 with most of the quests gone, dungeons not giving enough exp compared to FATEs, and generally FATEs being the only thing worth doing. I'd have been depressed leveling my alt (PLD, which of course shares a lot of gear with WAR, otherwise I wouldn't have done it...) if I was in a situation like the TC and saw empty FATEs.

On a somewhat related note I've noticed while leveling scholar that low level dungeon queues are getting longer. Its gonna suck for new players that come into the game in a few months unless they add some kind of incentive for players to go back to these. Particularly the trial primals and cape westwind which drop no loot or exp.

For clarity, I started with the dungeon in South Shroud (totosomething?) and went up to Brayflox and I've yet to have a queue shorter than 30 minutes as a healer. >_>

    1. If you are having issues getting to 15, then you are doing something wrong.

Between the hunting log, the class quests, the side quests (assuming you were smart and didn't blow them all on 1-2 classes. I didn't and still got 90% of mine ), FATEs, guildhests, and leves...there should be no reason why you are struggling at lvl 7.

I've actually timed it with me and several other people. removing side quests from the equation (since most people didn't listen to the limited quest announcement and blew through everything. most, not all) getting to level 15 from the log, class quests, FATEs, and hests (we didn't do leves) could take roughly 2-4 hours if you focus on the class and don't get sidetracked. The variance in time was for class quests and leveling pace between people.

I'm actively leveling 3 characters. You can always go that route if you felt like it. So I can actually focus on 3 jobs I want to play.. well sort of anyways Leveling multiple character just works for me better since I actually have more room to keep gear (having 3 different armouries and 6 retainers) Transferring gear is simply mailing/trading with friends or using the FC vault (as long as it's not bound) When I get my 2nd and 3rd char to end game I can do whatever weekly limits 3 times.

lol half of you have no idea what he's saying and start throwing the typical "op is dumb" comments. Seriously.

*Grinding mobs isn't an efficient way of exp, even with 50% exp boost and chains, it's slow and tedious.
*Guild Hests are only good ONCE and ONCE only, they should reset when you switch class, period.
*You can't solo 90% of the fates, if you say you can, you are lying...
*Dungeons are terrible exp and only available past 15

He's not saying he's a "lone wolf" he's simply stating the obvious, leveling alts without populated zones is insanely difficult and boring. The only legitimate option you have is Leves and even THAT is terrible exp and limiting.

He's right about the hunting log too, they should add more monsters per class or bump the exp.

If you people took a deep breath before replying to OP and put yourselves in his shoes, you'd know exactly what he's talking about.. I experienced the same problem, all the low level zones were dead, fates were active everywhere and I took hours just to hit level 15, I don't even want to imagine 1-2 years down the line when new players join the game and nobody is doing fates, imagine trying to level an alt without story quests? oh WOW and trying to get it to 50? not unless they change something, it's not gonna happen and people will quit.

    3. No, there are different monster sets for each class.
Guildhests are only viable once per "character" they don't offer the "completion bonus" 2nd time round, even if you swap class.. making them a waste of time. Why would I queue for 30 minutes just to get 800 exp?

Slow and boring, not to mention people farming mats will get in the way of exp chains. This isn't 2002, mmo's have moved away from mindless grinding.

See above, you don't get "completion bonus" for doing it a 2nd time, even if you swap class.

Read my post again please, I mentioned the zone was dead... on a popular server too! FC members aren't always eager to help level lowbies for hours, they don't mind running dungeons or helping with duty finder queues.. but asking them to come low level areas whenever I want to level up an alt isn't exactly an efficient way of leveling.

    -

I just think more needs to be done, guildhests should reset, dungeons should give more exp than fates and side quests should reset when you swap class... this would help a butt-load for leveling alts.

Most people don't have this problem because they leveled most of their alts while low level areas were still jam packed... I'm thinking about the future here, when Central Shroud, Western Thanalan etc are empty. Even in popular mmo's like WoW, low level areas are dead. This isn't because the game is dying but because most people are already max level and the amount of "new players" isn't as big as a launch title.

my 2c. just trying to help future-proof this game.
