Apparently i'm the first one, but I disagree with the premise of this thread. The raid lockout is fine the way it is- helping others, while I understand the spirit of that suggestion, would certianly be abused as others have said.

Caps per job would be silly, both because it would simply increase pressure to hit multiple caps and because it weakens any need to make decisions for your character. It totally makes sense that you have to prioritize which class you want to gear out- It's not like you're being disallowed from gearing out all of them, it will just take time. This time also affords you the oppertunity to consider other gear options in the interim (one of the ends to which Crystal Tower will exist).
Yeah after thinking more, I've changed my mind on this issue. Allowing helping in the tippy top raid is open to abuse.

As for going against the "spirit of the armoury system", I actually think that the design philosophy of the game has always tended toward specialization rather than generalization, at least since Yoshi-P took over. The armoury system was the original class change system in the game and it essentially made every single class the same because theorycrafters found the optimal setup of abilities to take in. The Job system (a Yoshida idea) was meant to create more specialization in the party roles by limiting the range of abilities you could equip so not every member could tank, heal, and dps at the same time. This limiting of gear forces even more specialization; a career healer should gear out healer classes first before thinking about other roles. The Need/Greed system supports this, since any healer can swipe an Allagan healer drop they want.

Even though "not needing alts" is a back-of-the-box selling point, the design of the game doesn't really support this notion. You're free to play any class you want (and I do because I like being versatile, hence leveling all 50s), but you can only be "the best" at one of them, gear-wise, at least for now as ilvl90 gear is gated by time.
