Unless you are a progression FC and are racing for world/server first, you have the option to spend some time to make money. The fact that people choose not to and the fact that they loathe to work a little extra is not a server problem, it's a personal lifestyle problem. During those CMAK runs, spiritbonding materia is the way to go. On goblin battledance goes for 30k a piece, Amber gear is 2k-5k. I used two for my relic quest, but am selling one battledance and two savage mights for 32k and 16kx2 respectively. That's more than enough to carry my repair bill for a while. Also, you know what DoW/M can farm that crafters can't? Potash, coke, etc. Goblin avg price is 30k. After 5 CM runs, you could have 120k gil by selling to crafters. THAT is your upkeep money. Don't worry about the gil. If need be, a crafter can make their money through leves or by reselling on the market, but asking for more gil generation is really only asking for more inflation since they reduced the gil sinks.
Having enough to cover the cost of repairs from running the end game content itself is hardly asking for much. It's such a small deal MMO's have been doing it for years, because they know they also have to cater to those who may only have a couple of hours per night to invest.

I'm not saying make end game content a viable means to make Gil like your post suggests, I simply believe that they need to make running end game content a viable means of repairing your gear for those who have limited time to play. If they want other perks then yes by all means they should have to work for it.
