    It is a social game...

    "Omg combat is to slow"

    Working as intended.

"Omg this is boring I have nothing else to do"

No friends need help? No random people need help? No other classes or crafts for you to level?

"Omg this noob asked a question in duty finder... so I left."

    Really?

"Omg this noob watched cutscenes... so I left."

    Really?

"Omg this noob didn't know the fight perfectly the very first time they ran the instance and they didn't watch videos before running it"

    Come on now...

"Omg this noob asked a question in chat... I told the noob to google it."

You must have a lot of friends...

"Omg this guy showed up to an instance in the gear that it is was designed for... noob wanted us to carry him"

Why are you people even playing online games?

I remember when I was in one of the guildhests where you have to kill all the monsters at the same exact time or they came back...and I didn't know that... I tried reading the hint at the beginning but the 3 other people that joined the duty finder with me took off towards the monsters and I felt rushed and went with them...

I didn't kill everything at the same time and was greeted with "NOOB kill them all together" "You should quit. You're bad noob" "Can't you read? Why are you even here?" (I probably cleaned up the grammar a bit).

I mean..first of all it's a guildhest...It's not like they don't give you WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH time to finish it even if you make a bunch of mistakes... Secondly, any of those 3 could have taken a 20-30 seconds to explain things to me and we would have saved the 3-5 minutes we wasted due to lack of communication + the 2-3 minutes it took for this guy to tell me how bad I am.

Oh so that is what they are doing... Good to know.

I got level 50 like two weeks ago and have refused to run level 50 instances because of these people. I figure they will burn out and/or quit soon so I can run instances and have fun... doing crazy stuff like helping people and not screaming at them.

You are absolutely right. Helping people is what brings mmo players together. And the thing is....those people will never forget that small 10-15 minutes you helped them with.

I met a mi'quote in 1.0 who crafted me some gear for free, and pointed me in the right direction for other things. It made my night. Varinthe Shizukai I think her name was.....

Anyway if anyone see's that player.....give them a thumbs up from me. ^^b

No incentive to be nice; no consequences for being a dickwad. Guess what happens in most online games?

Solution? Play with people you know.

If it's easy it means less. Caps and a grind don't make things hard, they make things take more time. If you aren't part of a person's social circle you easily become an object of the game... as you aren't struggling to achieve anything with them. You are doing 1 of your 8 runs a week with them never to be seen again. If you aren't 100% perfect you are wasting their time as a random.

There is little incentive to be friendly or helpful as you rarely get any positive feedback from doing so the way the game is set up.

So here we are. These things aren't really the cause of internet assholeisim, but are what is in this game that enables it.
