I'm seriously hoping its the first of those choices. Because as has been pointed out more then once by me and others. No Traditional FF Job is restricted to one weapon in past FF's.

Even Jobs like Dragoon which some mistakenly claim are only in it for Lances, are not.

Past Dragoons have no relevance in FFXIV. It is a different game.

I don't want to see a possible experimentation and character development opportunity locked away. You'll get used to it.

Reasons and Explanations on why this is a concern.

    1. Conjurer Unlocks White Mage. Thaumaturge can not be a White Mage because Conjurer is the class that unlocks it. But Thaumaturge can be a Red Mage. If you want to be a WHM equip a Conj weapon and set the job up.

    2. Thaumaturge Unlocks Dark Knight. Dark Knight is a melee class not a mage class I don't see how this would happen.

    3. Archer Unlocks Ranger. Future Ranged Weapon Class (Gun, crossbow, etc.) can't be a Ranger because Archer is the class that unlocks it. But the future classes will unlock future jobs. If you want to be a Ranger, equip a bow and be an Archer and then set up your Ranger Job

    4. Marauder Unlocks Warrior. Lancer, Pugilist, Archer, Gladiator, Future Great Sword user, etc. can not be Warrior because Marauder unlocks it. Yes because they will have their own Jobs

    5. Gladiator Unlocks Paladin. Paladin can not be used by a Great Sword user because its unlocked by Gladiator. Because Gladiator is the class that the Paladin Job belongs to. Who uses Great Swords? The class that does will have jobs associated with it.

These are things I DO NOT want. If I want to play a Paladin/Lancer or a Thief/Marauder I should be able too. I disagree. If you want to be a Paladin, equip a sword and a shield. If you want to be a Thief equip a dagger.

The look of Monk WS would look best using hand to hand with a great axe it make no sense lol it just does not feel right that you can be a monk and using a sword or other type of wep that monk really don't use in FF history.
Not true. Samurai could also equip certain shields, katanas, and swords. Which is the point Cairdeas is trying to say(He/she is just having trouble trying to make some of you understand). The Job system should be made, so that multiple weapons can be use, by whatever Job you have chosen to be at that moment. But, its up to SE to put the Job names to each specific weapon. I know they won't let you equip every single weapon for every Job, that's just silly. But defiantly there will be more than just 1 weapon type to be assigned to each Job.

I believe Monday they are going to give us the armory/weapon class changes, with auto attack, so we can get use to it. Because the whole argument on this post could have been different, if some of us remembered that armor system we have now, is not the same armory system we are going to have when the new Job System is put in.

What happens when you equip a sword?

What happens when you equip a staff?

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

    You must not play FFXIV.

Your class changes to Gladiator when you equip a sword.

Your class changes to Conjurer or Thaumaturge depending on what kind of staff you equip.

Maybe when they introduce battle staves, a MONK should be able to wield a staff, but until then, MONK should be limited to just Pugilist for now. But I am all for freedom, so I don't care if you can apply the MONK specialisation template to any class, regardless of relevance.

For example, say you wanted to be a Monk within the Thaumaturgy class, you wouldnt be very useful! But I don't see why it shouldnt be possible.

And all those are are special names to say things like "Sword User" Gladiators name in Japanese litterally means "Sword User" it isn't "Gladiator" in japanese. Its the word for "Sword" the word for "Art" and the Word for "Professional" all stuffed together.

Its not some special class like you see in Wow. Where a "Death Knight" is a collection of specific skills and weapon choices and talent trees that strictly define yourself.

It litterally means "I use a sword."

It doesn't define your role in combat, it doesn't define anything but what weapon you use and how your stats are reflected.

This is a false statement. As chocobo's, Cid, Airships, and the classic FF Jobs we are about to get, have all be consistent in some way in all FF. So, we can use them as example. You don't think the battle director for FFXI is not crossing some ideas over from FFXI, are building upon them for FFXIV. Auto-attack. you going to email the battle director and tell him this is FFXIV I don't want to see delay numbers on weapons. Because that is what we are getting.

Monk would be a class then right?

    Class = Equip a Tool/Weapon
Job = Level a class to a certain point and complete a quest.
