The market works as this:
I want to sell you 12 eggs at a certain price.
You want 6 eggs.
You either buy the 12 eggs, or look elsewhere for 6 eggs.
If I wanted to sell just 6 eggs, I'd have listed it at a 6 eggs price.

I don't see why anything needs to change, simply because people don't want to look and/or wait just to save money buying too many more than they want [which they can ultimately resell when they are finished].

This needs to change because you need to sell 40000 eggs, and you are only allowed to sell them in 40 wholesale lots. How do you divvy up the eggs for sale? Do you only put up 40 cartons of 12 at a time so you can sell them over a year? Or do you put up 40 lots of 1000 so that no sane person would want to buy a whole lot?
