My PLD tank with four pieces of ilvl 90 gear (Curtana + 1, allagan shield, earrings and ring of fending) + full darklight has 6,085 HP with food and party buffs.

That PLD tank in the screenshot has a little less than that to be sitting at 5.8k. At least one or two pieces of Amdapor Keep gear.

He doesn't have a food buff.

So yeah he'd be at about 5.9k ~ 5.95k if he did. Which is about right.

And again, it really depends on which pieces of tanking gear you luck out on having. If you get the chest and legs your HP will skyrocket. If you only get the belt and accessories, your HP isn't gonna climb up very fast.

That really isn't right. The first kill of turn 5 isn't going to be a paladin with 5800hp with ak gear, it will be a paladin with 6300+ hp with dl/ilevel 90's.

I disagree. While it's true Turn 5 is hard, Turn 5 is not a gear check fight. It's an execution fight. It's a RNG fight. The first legit kill of Turn 5 will have nothing to do with gear, and everything to do with execution.

Your tank having 5.8k, 6k, 6.2k or 6.4k HP bears absolutely no importance for Turn 5. It's all about the rest of the group being able to deal with all the crap going on during the fight.

And again, 5.8k doesn't mean "in AK gear". 5.8k means "full DL with Relic+1" or "full DL with Relic and Allagan belt + another accessory" or a couple of other possible variations. 5.8k could also mean this is a tank in half Allagan gear who put his stats into Strength instead of Vitality.

You'd have to be insanely full of yourself to think because someone has X HP then he is barred from progressing further than you. Turn 5 is an execution check. Whatever group manages to get the fight done perfectly will beat it, not whatever group has the best gear.

While I totally agree that the fight isn't a big gear check, you can clearly see he's wearing a Hoplite Tabard from AK in the screenshot.

All that means is you're a vit Paladin...He's most likely a paladin that put points into STR. I'm in Full Darklight with 1level90 ring and holy shield +1 and I only have 5.4k because I took Mitigation and threat instead of empty hp.

well no paladin dumb enough to take str is going to kill this boss until it's nerfed, so I think that is unlikely

You're wrong, I had 5.8k pre defiance in a full party with 4 pieces of AK gear.

You can theory all you want about how "it's totally doable in AK gear" but no one who isn't min maxing to a ridiculous degree is going to be the first to beat this fight. Certainly not someone using AK gear.

It's not dumb to take an extra 5% mitigation on blocking and parrying...That is damage that healers never have to heal through. PLus extra dps and threat. I've seen the difference even in turn 1 when I tank next to similarly geared paladins but I'm being hit less hard.

Dude .. with +30STR you'll gain at best +1% mitigation on block/parry
