Rushed release or not, nothing will excuse all the poor choices that were made regarding game mechanics. The lack of content is one thing and yes it can be explained by a rush product but the sucky battle system, crafting, UI, job system... all of these are just the director's vision... which is 20 years behind the competition.

Even rushed he could have made a game with great gameplay but lacking content.... which would already be 1000 times better then what we have now.

How exactly is the job system "behind" anyone? It's just a diffirent approach to it. Mind you I think it's severly underdeveloped (partially due to being rushed out before certain features like stance could be introduced) but I wouldn't call it behind. And the battle system is pretty interesting as an idea, but it was executed poorly.

If these things where just "executed poorly" They would just be "fixed" and not "changed". Battle system is seeing as much as a 70% change and the job system too from the bits of info, poll and interviews looks like it will see a lot of change.

If the only problem was that these system where rushed and not completed , then all Yoshi-P's team would have to do is complete them, not change it. Things would have been completed by now and nobody would complain anymore... but guess what? That's not the cause. These system suck at the core and because of that Yoshi-p's team has to redo them from scratch and this is why 8 months later we are still waiting.

You may like Tanaka because of FFXI but let's face the truth, the dude seriously dropped the ball on this one.

they are being changed instead of fixed because yoshi wants to make final fantaswow. they could have easily been fixed and tweaked, but instead we get a new director that wanted a completely different direction than the game was built for.

We asked for drastic change. As I recall, Tanaka's plan was originally to finish the system, but he was axed from the project and Yoshi asked us what we wanted, and it turns out we wanted the whole system to change. I'm not saying he's great and to be honest I really don't care about him as a person, but I don't think it's right to go on an emotional tirade on him or to claim the ideas he had where "behind" just because they where incomplete (and we know they where incomplete because promised features where and still are missing).

He is not solely to blame for the under performance of the game; just because he's the man in charge does not make him the scapegoat for blame. Communication is extremely important when working on a project, and from what we can understand, Square has been having this issue for at least the past 5 or 6 years.

Also, do you happen to have a link to the interviews that explain how the system will change. I would love to find out where they're going with it.

not entirely true. the questions were so vague about what drastic changes were that most people looked at the game in general and said "yes i want drastic change so i vote yes". i was one of them, but if it was asked do you want to remove the battle system in place and add in auto attack to replace it as drastic change i for one would have voted no to that drastic change.

Nice, someone else who keeps whining that this isn't XI-2 but still won't quit the game and the boards.

The point is, people said they where ok with drastic changes and so changes are coming to the system instead of simply completing them.

    I dunno.

Good vision with bad implementation or mysterious future?

Why are you guys trying to defend the game when even he admitted it was a terrible product and even resigned (no, he was not fired, he resigned of his own volition).

First of all, I would like to apologize for our inability to fully satisfy our users with the initial release of FINAL FANTASY XIV. I take full responsibility for the game's current situation, and have therefore made the decision to step down from my role as producer. A number of concerns that have been voiced by users, such as the design of the user interface, availability of tutorials and game content, and battle system functionality, represent key issues that must be addressed. While improvements are already well underway in many areas, we were unfortunately not able to incorporate player feedback as quickly as we would have liked. We are aware, however, that in many cases, addressing these issues will call for a reworking of game elements. As these changes are our first priority, they will be commanding our full attention and efforts. It is to that end that we have put a new organizational structure into place for the development team. Under this new system, FINAL FANTASY XIV will see changes and additions in line with the desires and expectations of players. Though no longer producer, I will be continuing to support the development team in other capacities, and personally hope that you will continue your adventures in the realm of Eorzea.
    Seriously.

EDIT: Also according to his resignation, Tanaka was going to redo the systems as well rather than "complete" them.
