    I really like the "Secret of Mana" style battle system that's already in place. I'm a bit bummed that we'll be going back to auto attack.

    Despite that I still think the OP make some good points

    FFXIV's addition of an Action Bar with icons and timers is certainly a welcome improvement over FFXI's bland, text-only Macro Pallet,
    I find it especially annoying how there's often a very noticeable delay between hitting the button for an ability and the ability actually executing. In FFXI, abilities would execute immediately as soon as you hit the button for them, while in FFXIV there's frequently a delay of at least a few seconds. This not only slows down the action and makes combat frustrating, but also makes it unnecessarily difficult to time your attacks or use any sort of real battle tactics and strategies...
    I agree with the above points. Less delay between selection and execution is vital to that visceral action feel. If only this was changed I think people would be much more welcome to XIV's system.

    It still hurts communication in parties though. That's an unfortunate downside to the "Secret of Mana" system. You shouldn't have to download a third party program for voice chat so you can communicate effectively with others in a genre that is so pivotal on creating bonds between players. Unfortunately, this hurts the cross language/ pickup party playability that was prevalent in XI. I thoroughly enjoy the current system, but only because I only party with LS members and talk to them on Vent. I can't remember the last time I was in a pick up party.

    Oh, by the way, if you're on Besaid. There is a vent for everyone on Besaid if you're interested.

    Dont be too bummed yet. The new battle system is supposed to be alot faster than XI, despite having auto-attack implemented, and besides, how many Final Fantasy games do you know that share the exact same battle system?

    Similarities? Sure. But there will be something to set XIV aside from the crowd. Plus with chains of some sort coming for exp/sp bonuses, and a reworking of battle regimens (hopefully with added special effects or at least the title of the regimen effect being displayed for a few seconds), it could be fast paced all the same.

    The dev team is capable of something MUCH better than what was in XI. Let's leave XI in the past where it belongs.

    Maybe, but they arent going to take everything posted and implement something similar just because it has alot of pages (just look at the jump topics from awhile back ). But seriously, it says exactly in his letter that they wont do something that similar to XI's system, even though he was the system director for XI.

    It'll share some similarities, but it wont feel the same anymore than FFVI feels like FFIV.

    Honestly I'd lose quite a bit of respect for the dev team if they just copped out and implemented an old system when they have the chance to make something new and much better. Yes what we have now is something new and it failed but honestly a lot of the stuff put in by the old dev team just feels half finished. It feels like they really didn't think a lot of things through well enough or didn't want to or have enough time to put into it. I'm going to trust the current team's judgement, they've yet to let me down personally.

    Why the hell not? FFXI's scores didn't change dramatically later on. The scores it was getting 18 months after release were generally the same as the scores it got at launch. There is nothing unfair about making such a comparison.

    I can understand that Square Enix didn't want to make a direct sequel to an MMO, equally they have to consider that FFXI at prime had a 500,000 strong user base for a reason. They didn't lend, borrow and change any of their past "good working" systems.. And that is what is responsible solely for the failure of the game IMO.

    The Battle System is one of them.. Apparently the new system is being announced.. I'd bet a lot of things that the remodeled system is going to be very reminiscent of Final Fantasy XI.. Why? Because it WORKS.

    Auction House, Mog House, Chocobo, Airship, Delivery Box. These are things you will come soon as this game progressively becomes FFXI-2. Why? Because they work.

    battle system of ffxi is why many left. in fact id say it was one of the worst parts about ffxi.

    The battle system is fine, the time consumption was a little too much for many though. Job balance was an issue during certain points but the battle system itself is solid.
