Sick of RMT spam

Now they've moved out of the cities. I already turn my chats off on entering main cities, but today I have to start turning chats off period I guess.

Why is there no SIMPLE method of reporting spam/players - a click on name interface?? Why is it that you are making it SO DIFFICULT on us to report it? Why are you guys in effect helping PROTECT RMT sites and players breaking game rules by burying the UI that reports them... making it incredibly PAINFUL to report???

Dunno if I'm going to sub on to this game if I have to TURN OFF MY CHATS which is an integral aspect in an MMO.

Every MMO is plagued by the inevitable gold spammers. This is something you're going to have to learn to deal with as a player of MMO games. I'd assume square has more important fixes/updates at this time. I do feel like they're being overwhelmed by this. More moderation never hurts but they've got so many worlds now. Banning doesn't really help by the way because there is always thousands more to take their place. These run on scripts, not actual humans. I personally think you should be at least level 15 and have completed the story quests up to that point in order to Shout/Yell that would cut down for a little while and make it easier to fight them. Obviously this puts a damper on chatter among legitimate players but it's a necessary evil. Overtime however they'll just find new ways to circumvent whatever measures are put in place. Companies have to be proactive and consistent with the fight to keep the spam down.

I'm not sure which MMOs you've been playing 16bit... but I've personally never experienced this much gold spam. My background: Ultima Online, EQ, WOW, Warhammer, SWTOR, Horizons, Shadowbane, DAOC, AOC, Eve, DDO, LOTRO, EQ2, Vindictus, Rift, GW2, Defiance, NVN... and like 25 that I missed. Never in any of my personal playing experience have I ever seen it this bad and this out there.

They aren't doing enough. They also help the RMT sites through their terrible reporting UI.

They said that they're working on a bunch of new stuff, a good chunk of the small things being implemented in 2.1 (the reason of which can be found here.) As to what they can/cannot specifically implement until 2.1, I couldn't tell you.

Regarding the RMT spam... Personally, I feel like it's been getting better, but it's not where it could be. Admittedly, I'm not exactly the most active player, so my perspective regarding the situation is rather limited. The game is not yet a month old, so I'm going to give it a little more time before passing judgement on the growing pains of a new MMO - that is, I'm not too concerned with the number of issues the development team runs into. It's how they handle those issues that will either keep me around or push me away.

I have a blist full of those bastards lol. But when I get the personal chat ones I get to use the spiffy macro /blist add <r> which auto blists the last person to send you a tell. So as soon as I here the tone I do check the message at a glance and then hit my macro and that person is blisted. Yeah it still sucks to get these but I just kinda view it as a mob attack and my macro is the spell to kill that particular mob.

These issues are "here and now" issues - in your face as you log into the game. If they can't even get a handle on this type of issue what hope should I hold on them being able to develop better content? It can't be THAT HARD to be proactive and throw a GM account for just 10 mins in every city in the game... or to have the ability to report players through clicking on their name. What genius thought up the report function? That scares me actually. If they can't even handle a proper functional report interface?

The fact that I have to shut down chats in an MMO is the main reason I left Rift. Spam (guild spam, rex spam, dimension spam) was completely out of control and you couldn't hold a simple conversation in any global chat without being inturrupted several times. Chat communication is an INTEGRAL aspect of MMO... it's not a miniscule problem that both of you seem to think it is. I AM TURNING OFF MY CHATS BECAUSE THIS COMPANY CANNOT HANDLE THEIR BUSINESS.

This is a valid point. Getting a moderator for each server to keep an eye on the chats should be something basic and easy. Right now there is almost nothing going on on these chats, because those have become the domain of the bots. The moderators wouldn't even have that hard of a job. Square should just make an app that lets the moderator know if there is a "rapid discussion" on a chat and then take a look on it. If there is a bot, just hit it with a ban hammer. Wait for another source of "rapid discussion" and repeat.

Yeah Blaine - I think my issue here is NOT with RMT in the game... but it's more with SE's decided LACK OF ACTION... they don't seem to be even attempting to do anything constructive about it.

If this was MY game and MY company, I would be truly embarassed by 2 key items here:
1) That anyone could HOP from X,Y,Z pointA to X,Y,Z pointB without being detected by my program and automatically flagging that account to be terminated. Like really basic stuff here... if you move faster than the game's limits that should be investigated right NOW and banned right NOW.
2) Gil Spam. This is maybe not easily 100% terminated however things like a truly dedicated investigation team and a better UI interface... basic items... including other things like having GM accounts logged in for a 1-2 week "blitz"

I had barely played any P2P MMO's. but Jesus Christ.
These forum restrictions are shit and now I can barely talk in the game.
