It literally takes a minute to explain the basic mechanics for most dungeons at least 1-50. I don't know why some people prefer to risk wipes and be a dick to newbies after instead of taking that minute. But then again its the internet.

Exception to rule #2 : Non-Dungeon fate/boss Gorgimera![]()
You should make an effort to read up on the fights online before you go in. It takes all of 2 minutes and it's inconsiderate to go in with no knowledge of a fight. Sure if you have questions people should answer them and help out where they can. But not familiarizing yourself with the dungeon bosses before hand is just selfish and lazy. There are more people in the group than just you and being prepared when you're new will get you much more respect. If you put in a bit of work beforehand, people are far more willing to help out. But if you do nothing at all, why should we? Give and take - you can't expect other people to do all the work for you.
[QUOTE=NeoZehel;1301186]Well yeah, there's always exceptions. And you explain those. But the majority of bosses I've found from 10+ years of playing MMOs follow those basic rules in one form or another.2) Hug his butt. Try to stay behind the boss, away from cleaves, breath, whatever.

This is saddening, along with the other slew of DF pitfall threads.
I've only run a few lower level dungeons, but only 1/7 times did anyone bother to explain it. Every time the message popped up that there was someone new there. Not that there are many tricks in the first few dungeons, but there are a couple that make life easier.

I'm still new to dungeons, and have not played as a tank yet, mainly healer and a couple runs as DD. But I get better each time. If someone is new, and it's not my first attempt, I try to give a heads-up about things I have noticed before. The only way to improve is with experience and in my case at least, lots of repetition. Everybody was level 1 at some point...![]()
So you are willing to wipe yourself and waste 5-10 minutes because you refuse to take 1 minute explain a boss to a newbie because you feel he should go on the internet and do research for every boss in every dungeon before playing the game? Who exactly are you "teaching a lesson" to doing that anyway? You should make an effort to read up on the fights online before you go in. I always watch videos of the boss fights in dungeons I'm about to queue for. I always explain that I am new the the dungeon, but have watched a video so I have a basic idea of what's going on.
That said, watching a video or reading a posted strat is far from actually doing it, and I appreciate when someone takes a minute or two to explain nuances or a brief summary that might not be entirely clear by just watching a video or reading a post. Not every dungeon has a step by step guide illustrating what to do, not to mention after watching several encounters in one go, information tends to get muddled or lost among all the bosses and their skills I just soaked in.
It definitely works both ways, but in regards to OP's experiences with people leaving after one attempt, it's not always about being unprepared. It's about not being an impatient child and understanding that the game, and a lot of the players are still new.
I find people being arrogant pricks just because they feel above wanting to spend a minute to explain, are just as bad as people coming in and saying "lol wat do I go guys? lol", if not worse.
Note: I'm going off the OP's experiences. I'm glad that you are considerate enough to help out those that do try.

If people are making an effort to do their best and learn the fights (and they actually communicate that to us), I am happy to help out. But if they are lazy and don't try and just expect the rest of us to carry them, or they say nothing at all, that is going to piss me off. I'll go out of my way and spend extra time in a dungeon for nice and considerate people. I've even dealt with multiple wipes in Qarn to the point where we had so many wipes we barely made the timer on the last boss. People died on nearly every boss, leaving the rest of us to low man it. The last boss we actually 3 manned most if it and then 2 manned the last bit because our BLM was new and having issues. Talk about carrying people - but I had fun in that dungeon and everyone in the group was really nice. Well, I understand your frustration and I'm the type that asks if people know the fight before we rush in, but... I feel like you are dumping the responsibility on others when you can easily do the work yourself. You can type "Sunken Temple FFXIV" into google and you will get a quick run down of strategies. You can always be the person doing the explaining, not just the one who expects to be told. It's not like I've never been new to a dungeon before, but I always familiarize myself with the core techniques before queuing to show respect to those who already know the fights.
