I'd like this a lot, if only to try out different jobs in a "safe" environment. I'm a decent enough WHM but I'm a terrible tank/DPS in groups, and it'd be nice to give those roles a go somewhere that isn't going to cause others trouble.
~Note to self: Stop logging out in silly hats~
Heck, I'd even try a solo thing where NPCs fill in the other roles just so I could learn the system. I have yet to even set foot in an 8-player instance so it's all still kinda intimidating.
I've yet to find a significant wiki or database about game mechanics and strategies, for obvious reasons. That would also help a lot.
(A more comprehensive source will come in time, I know, in the meantime we all get to crash-course everything, we're crash test dummies! Haha)
I'll be honest, for Light Party type of dungeons, which I equate to 5-mans in WoW, I'm not going to bother reading up on a fight. I think expecting people to do that is just silly.
For raids, which I suppose are the 8 and 24 mans in this game, I not only will read up on the fight, I'll read up on my role, watch videos, theorycraft damage numbers, etc.
Save the extra work for where it belongs, not on the easy stuff.
Generally I will say if I am experienced in a run or not. I honestly don't tell people the mechanics unless they ask. Sometimes people like to experience their first run without spoilers. Sometimes wiping can be the best teacher. When they say "what happened?" I tell them.
However I am never nasty or rude when people are learning. As long as there is improvement even in failure I am pretty happy. If I wanted speed runs I would be finding a static group not DF it.
There's still hope!
It was just as I predicted, in any MMO’s there is shortage on tanks. We’re looking into add a bonus for those roles we are short on in patch 2.1.
Can you please explain some more regarding the bonus for those roles in shortage?
In the finders display it will display what roles are currently short, so if you que in with that role you’ll get exp bonus or gil bonus.
Sounds similar to blood donation. Like we’re short on blood type AB. So that’s going to show up on each DutyFinder category?
Yes it will. We are short on these people, it’s a feature we can do because we have the Armoury System.
So for EXP bonus it’s going to be like 1.1 times more?
No, I believe it will be somewhat better than 1.1 times. Also, we’re going to start random matching. Not sure if we’re going to separate the story primal battle and non-story primal battle from category but for categories are split into categories such as “Leveling Dungeon”, “End Dungeon”, “Guild Order” and if you press the “Random” button to que in, DutyFinder will automatically and randomly choose a dungeon. For those that que in with this random matching will also get a bonus. However this is once a day feature.
Once a day, what do you mean once?
The bonus you can obtain from doing it random.
I see, so you can play the random matching as much as you want in that one day, however the bonus will only apply to that first time only?
We are still looking into either making it once a day, or one bonus only. When we say bonus, it’s not experience points or gil, you will be able to obtain tokens needed to obtain gears. You will be able to obtain tokens from this random matching. Merit in doing this is that high level players will come in together with new players to fill in the roles that is short. Also we’re looking into a feature where you can submit a vote for MVP. When queuing in with random matching, players can submit a vote for another player as MVP. By collecting those MVP points you will also be able to trade with items. We are already listing up the rewards, but you can get mounts, or chocobo specific gears and such are being looked into.
Ohh, that’s nice, is that also coming in patch 2.1?
Yes we are planning to implement this in patch 2.1
Oooh, all of those suggestions sound great. ^.^
Honestly based on everything Yoshi has said in the past, I think that the DF is supposed to be just this. A place to try things out you are new to, even if it takes a few tries. Just like in solo content, except not with NPC's but other players who also are new, or who are trying a different role. For those who are already experienced however it has always been expected they will play more with a pre-formed party, unless they are helping out new players.
I mean honestly, any attempt to use DF for quick group ups for grinding, but then bailing on or leaving behind new players who can't keep up is an abuse of the system, which is why the MVP system is coming. If it were intended that people just "know" the dungeon before queuing, this sort of feature wouldn't be implemented or desired, because it would be superfluous.
I was probably dealt the worst possible hand, where our gladiator thought his role was to "just kill stuff", though our healer wasn't bad, so I guess it could have been worse. Everyone but myself were PS3 players, so they weren't very talkative or responsive when it came to strategy. At some point through the dungeon, after the PUG and I (ARC) were tired of having to tank to get mobs off the healer, we let the tank go on his merry way and attack whatever he wanted without our help until he responded, as all previous attempts at communication had failed.
We weren't really mean about it, just making a point that he needed to stop and listen. When we finally got a hold of him, we pretty much explained the whole deal, and taught him what his role was supposed to do, and gave him as many tips as possible to get him to tank better. He only kind of got the tanking multiple enemy thing down by the end, but we still pulled through. The majority of people who do dungeons are quite reasonable, even the ones that know very little about MMOs or the game. As for the ones that aren't, there isn't much you can do except for move on.
I'm basically one of those type of players. I can learn much better and faster if I experience it first hand. The Chimera battle is a good example. One of my friends sent me a YouTube link, suggesting I'd watch it to get familiarized with the battle. I watched a few times, but it was too much for me to sink in, minutes before doing the battle ourselves. But, after wiping a few times, I started to notice things and were starting to make sense.
In the end I found out the hard way that I still had much to learn about how I should play my healer class. But, with the experience I got from Chimera, I started to think hard about how I could improve myself. After rearranging my skills on the hotbars, I managed to improve my responsiveness in battle.
oh the temple, the memories <3
