Personally, I would prefer a long free ferry ride like in 1.0 as an option to make up for walking distance as a balence. Complete with fishing because why the hell not?

Overall minor issue at the worst, but I just want to hear what other people think. Enchant me with your collective wisdom and social grace.
It's rather irrelevant, there isn't any group content until you're sent on the airship to the other city-states in the main story anyway. And even then, you don't have to be in the same area/region as your friends to invite them and queue up for whatever dungeon you're going to do. This would merely be an aesthetic change, which is fine I suppose but not really important.

Don't count out the gathering and crafting jobs, not to mention various war jobs and standard quests. There are many things you can't get outside the island.

And that isn't really an aesthetic change as it has to do directly with the game economy interaction itself and less to do with how the game comes of atmospherically.

I really don't see the importance. Especially considering exactly how much time it would take to run between Gridania and Ul'dah. Which itself is a waste of time. At what level would this be even remotely economic as compared to the time it would take?

Not really so much important as it is even throughout. In spite of how small the charge is, it does give the city-state a disadvantage when moving around.

I do see what you mean though. The rate is so small that it seems a trifle. Something that would just boil down to something like aesthetic.

I don't think it has to be changed, I just wonder why it is what it is.

I run between Gridania and Ul'dah and it really isn't that long. I prefer to save my money and use my time rather than spend my money and port all over the place. I'd like to see an option to get to Limsa Lominsa without being forced into having to port or take a boat that cost 200 Gil. I'd rather pay more up front for my own reusable boat or better yet, craft one. All in all, I agree with the OP and would like to see a way to enter that region more easily. I avoid going there unless I plan to stay a while or I am forced to by the main story line.
