Skill is more important than gear in this game

sure, better gear will give you higher chance to win but no skill will lead to lose always. Last night I saw a i45 gear healer did much better job than these healer with relic+1 in Titan HM. that's df Group. running to the wrong spot and die will ruin the fight no matter how good of your gear. People just need more practice with good attitude. It is not some game like the tie2 gear could reduce Dmg by 5"%.etc war hammer, or rift. So overall skill without mistake is more important in this game.

Curious if that i45 healer would even be allowed to queue for Titan HM after gear scores get added.

You're right insomuch as skill will always be of prime importance, but as content becomes more demanding then the most skillful player will reach a plateau without better gear. If you need to do X amount of damage to take down a mob before a skill activates, it doesn't matter how skilled you are if your gear simply doesn't allow you to put out enough damage.

Maybe so for healers and some DPS, but I highly doubt that an Ilv45 geared Tank could do it no matter how well he danced around Titan.

Healers are about the only class that can get by with a low gear score. It's not happening with a tank if you don't have enough HP and mitigation to actually survive high damage attacks and no amount of skill is going to get you past the various DPS checks if your DDs don't have the gear to do the required damage.

Simply not true. A healer is just as dependent on gear as any other class in the game. For example, going from an ilvl45 cane to Ifrit's Cane increased the healing done by my Cure I by over 200 HP. That's a MASSIVE difference. An undergeared healer is going to have have to cast twice as much as a properly geared healer and will be out of MP very quickly unless you have bard's mage ballad and plenty of ethers as a crutch.

Gear is super important for fights with unavoidable damage like HM Titan.

If you don't have health above 3000 HP then you're a hindrance to the group.

Been pointed out but just wanted to reiterate that no amount of skill will alllow you to out dps hard checks of "do this amount of damage or you die" or "have this amount of health/be able to do this amount of healing or you die". Both of which exist within the Titan fight. So to amend your statement, on a fight like Titan having good gear is no less and no more important than player skill.

It is a pure shame that the elitest argument always semms to rear its ugly head in online video games.

However, there is but one simple way to explain it.

Gear is simply not every thing and is not what always determines the fate of a fight. It does however make good players great and great players perfectionists. The great players tend to not need a hand up, where the good players need all the help they can get.

Gear score, item level, what ever you want to call it these days is not the end all be all that defines us or the outcome of a battle ingame, it is merely a way to determine someones dedication and time spent playing. The rest boils down to brain power, understanding a fight, the ability to adapt to "oh ^&%$" moments and the countless amount of other variables that always seem to plague us in this industry, BSoD's, lag, loss of connection, distractions etc etc.

At the end of the day, it boils down to what you are happy with and can it be done with a monumental amount of effort, after all, what feels better for you, trivializing a fight or being the under dog and rising to victory? I tend to choose the later, as I prefer my time spent playing feel some what rewarding, even if the virtual experience of it all is some what, pointless.

One last thing, just remember, on the other end of that screen is not a player, but a person. A little common courtesy can go a long way in to grooming someone to becoming that next perfectionist.
