Also, most average players aren't interested in viewing the forums, one cursory look would probably explain why.
I do see more people using lodestone blogs, on the other hand.
what quests give mats? i don't think i got -any- mats from any of the quests.... And they give almost no lore whatsoever except for a few quests related to the new stuff. Most of them are generic stories that could be randomly placed in any game.

and average player = new player. Most of the hardcore fans already got the game, so most people who will be getting the game on ps3 re-release will be average MMO players lookin for a new mmo to try out. Not avid FFXIV fans who are looking forward to the game (except for a very few who were unable to afford a comp to play the game)

Way to twist your skrew up. No you can't have a "new player" also be the "average player" unless you mean average gamer. Like I said I'm new to this game and my ranks have nothing to do with my enjoyment. If you do not care about lore do not complain about it. Honestly, it it kinda tacky to talk down to y someone by bringing up stuff that don't matter. My siggy is in accurate and just use it to show ppl i do play. Also I'm not really a hard core final fantasy fan. I got this game cuz I enjoy mmo. And I enjoyed ff11. If anything Im a hardcore game story fan. I only play games with good stories. Typically I play Zelda or Elder scrolls.

What is your own player name btw? I'm curious because of your first post in the thread.

I received crystals and shards from doing sidequests, tasks and leves, all of which new players can do from the start. The forums seems to have conjured up this idea of anyone not with an axe to grind against SE would defend even Mystic Quest to the death. SE seems to think we are the average player, why else would it have a forum and polls over when we would like to see implemented first as part of their changes? How do you think the cities looked at launch? This happens with most game populations I've played.

And as far as "Generic Stories that could be randomly placed in any game" You do know that most stories in all fiction can be broken down into several related plots. I can make Armageddon sound boring. I'm not expecting Shakespeare when I see a side quest. I want Shakespeare for my main quest, and the main quest takes quite a while for the new player to go through to even this point that people voted for more stuff to do in the interim, hence side quests, hence the task boards and guilds.

I'm not sure what you're curious about but:
http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...e=1&howmany=50 < that was the original guide i wrote which has over 45,000 views on ZAM alone (its also on core and a few other sites)
If you look up my char you will notice i have completed nearly every quest (i have one more to do in the limsa region and then i gotta run around every city again to see if any new ones have been unlocked, but i dont think so)

Given that crystals are like 1000 gil each (4 or less R1 marmot pelts) i don't really see how thats a -good- reward. I'm not arguing about tasks and leves. I'm specifically talking about the "sidequests". And I'm pointing out that compared to FFXI and almost every MMO out there, the sidequests in FFXI feel like a joke. I mean honestly, Hello Kitty Online has more "fun" or more "in-depth" sidequests than this game does. and thats a cheap 2d free-to-play mmo. My main point is when this game pushes off an advertising campaign to attract new players, if they are testing the game to see if its worth paying for or deciding whether or not to invest time in the game, or even reviewing the game, they will think the game is a joke.

When i say the average player i mean the average MMO player and not hardcore ff fan. The girl/guy that the game -wants- to attract, and keep. The people who will eventually determine the success of this game. Given that the population is so low, this will almost for sure be the new players.

Have you played Hello Kitty online, or is this more of you pulling complaints out of thin air?

So, a demographic that is "not" the players playing this game now, which will not be the same game when they DO start playing it, will not like the game that they do play when they see it.

But they will not experience the game the same way you have, they will not even experience the same game progression. It is the difference between Buying Everquest at launch, with all the bugs and server crashes, and Buying Everquest when expansion packs launch. It's a completely different experience leveling up with The Nexus to take you around, and playing having to sneak aboard the ferry. The PS3 launch is bound to cause a flux of population across all servers and cities. The Players will have a population of other players to game with, along with our own.

I was the first North American Game Sage on hello kitty online when it was released under Aeria games (it failed lol). People playing now aren't whats going to make the game successful, otherwise they would have started charging already. And they will pretty well have the exact same experiance since there is nothing new. Players tend to play for efficiency. So there won't be much point in doing quests for sp or gear since you can push any dom/dow to rank 20 in under a day with little effort.

The only merit quests really have is storyline. You basically spend hours running back and forth for story. And most of the story is completely pointless and has no real lore.
Occasionally you get tidbits, but for the most part its pretty lame compared to whats available in other games.
