Well considering its regional servers I dunno where you're getting Japanese servers from and you make it sounds like SE opened up yesterday, I'm sure they're planning on promoting this game again and like sheep people will follow the herd. If the game does well to keep them there is a different story, we should have a good idea of that by the end of the summer.

You know how the servers each have a label like Besaid being the most populated English speaking server, while mysidia is mainly Japanese thats what I meant.

Also the side quests do have lore. You just don't understand it. The point of them and even yoshida said this was to show us how the day to day lives of the people of eorzea are like. They were not going to have epic stories, rewards or cs.

Even in the instances. There is more lore then you guys are letting on. Lore actually has almost nothing to do with the main story. Lore is the stage, setting, and the prequal. This game has alot more lore then you guys thing, just take a closer look for it. Pay attention to the smaller stiff to see the bigger picture.
    Some lore people over look.
I said semi-cutscenes. Like where the camera pans out, NPCs walk in, music might change, etc. Like where you can't leave or move till its done. I dont mean like the mission cutscenes. There were almost no quests in FFXI that were like "go here get item x" done, other than the few fame ones like cornettes, bat wings, etc. And then by the time WotG came out almost every new quest had a seriously long cutscene. Also you got to know characters in the city who ended up in quests to unlock other jobs and often in the story line. I did almost every quest in FFXI as bst, much like i've tried to do every quest in this game. There is a serious difference. Honestly, hello kitty online's quests are more fun than these are... These quests are like -really- terrible.

and i understand the point of them showing the people's average lives. But who cares? This is a video game. its supposed to be epic and cool. Do you really think the 100s of new players joining the game will care about some npc wanting to sell her cookies around town? Fine, if they were creative and had you do different things then it might be ok. But they are ridiculously repetitive to the point where you kill the same mobs in each city for the same basic quest just with a slightly diff storyline.

These quests can be summed up as the following: a short plot that takes less than 1 min to read or understand.
30min to an hour of running around
    1 minute of fighting

thats literally 90% of the quests.

    then 10% are:
Run around town and talk to 5 people
Go from town to town talking to people in each one

Also azure about your leathercraft example...... you can level up crafts w/o spending a dime via local leve quests npc give you all the ,mats you need, and enough items for at least 2-3 errors which you can still craft after the set amount was reached. I leveled up my goldsmithing to rank 10 so far w/o spending a dime. And that is a combo of levequests and usong what I gather from mining. I have yet bought any mats.

I pretty much do not care if a quest has a cs or not, each quest in ffxi did have a point to it. Even the gather x item quest. I do not over look anything. But apprently you do. You over look the smallest details.

Those "go here, collect this, get money" quests were also extremely useful for either fame or gil. Does this game have fame, or even repeatable quests for gil?I haven't done any side quests. Wait, there isn't even a use for gil yet...... :/

I haven played ffxi since feb 2011. But I recall alot of the side grab x item quests. For example.... The rarab hostel tarutaru needs you to grab a stone so she can use it as a pickling stone, to make her little tavers signature food rarab tails (a pickled onion). (no mini cs wasn't involed in this quest)

seciound (sp it beenm a while) needs to you to get him bat wings. The reason he needs them is he feels a darkness is coming and uses the wings to protect him.

I do not recall which tarutaru is which but the cornette tarutaru is doing research on the mandragora, an odd plantlife all over vanadiel. And pays you for items found on them to aide in his research.

Those are not epic stories, but stories about these people and their place in the world. Which is part of the lore of the world of vanadiel.

The sidequests in ffxiv also serve this purpose.

The side quests in ffxiv are used to flesh out Eorzea itself. They are small peices or gears in the much large puzzle or clockwork of the game world. They serve to get to know the daily life in each city, and learn about each city. Take time to actually read and digest what the npc say. You tend to learn alot.

there were only a few of those compared to like 40+ story based quests in each city. And they had a purpose. fame generation. FFXI had a lot of "go here and pop an nm" quests, or "go pop a treasure chest" or "explore the world" or talk to all these diff npcs around the world. They almost all promoted exploration of the entire world with good interesting stories and character development.

This games quests have -no- purpose. It doesn't matter if they are good lore wise. they aren't what an average gamer wants. And thats the problem.

let me put it another way: everyone complained leves were too boring and repetitive and wanted quests.
These quests are leves.. just more drawn out. they even have less dialogue than most leves do.
