Yup FFXI was such far better leveling experience .. standing in Jeuno shouting for a group for hours before (if you were lucky) heading off and fighting for one of the few camps the game provided.

Taking literally months to hit 75 on all the jobs you 'needed' because the playerbase DEMANDED maximum efficiency in group composition (and LOLDRG! ) was so much fun. Oh how we loved fighting crabs/pugils/goblins from level 1 to 75.

Thank God MMOs like that won't ever be developed again.

Hmm... touché, but I think steroids would fit more in comparison to aim bots and the like. ;D

When MMOs were new they were also RPGs. After years of MMOs, for many, they've evolved more into e-sports than RPGs. This shift in focus for many, not all, players explains some of the differences you see I think.

Its less about "adventuring with other players in a virtual world" and more about an e-sport getting the points/levels/ladder rankings/whatever.

Its just a culture shift in how the genre is viewed and experienced.

@MapleDeepDish - Did you and your wife ever find someplace nice on Ultros? And thanks to those who replied to this a few days ago with positive outlooks

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but I think I feel disconnected from my linkshell in FFXIV because of the position of the chat log.

Linkshell chat was so in-your-face in FFXI that you couldn't help but feel like you were all playing together. In FFXIV, I get messages from linkshell members that I don't see until minutes after the fact because it's tucked away in the corner in such mild text.

You can resize, recolor, and move the chat box to your desired location. You can also increase the font size and take so much screen space you could barely play the game if you wanted.

Actually, if anyone can recommend a good, moderately sized FC with awesome people who actually talk and treat you like a human being instead of a number, I'm to the point where I may just abandon my 50 and reroll on a new server.

Cactuar has pretty much zero community. Hell, if someone talks in shout chat (besides a gil seller or someone advertising crafting work) it's cause for celebration.

I started on FFXI Kujata server, and yes you are correct FFXIV is lacking the LS communities that FFXI had. It seems like everywhere you turn on FFXIV there is a different FC sending random invites. TONS of them on Diabolos. I used to get them all the time and I was like "do I know these people, and why are they inviting me?"

I currently started my own FC on the Diabolos server to try and re-kindle some of the FFXI communities I remember. Our FC currently consists of all real life family and friends. We will allow outsiders to join (30 day trial period); however, I will not allow the FC to grow and recruit randomly. I prefer to bring other family and friends into our FC. This way the mechanics of our FC will be based on real life respect.

Good luck to ya OP and good luck to all you other FFXI brethren.

I would like to extend invitations to those who are looking for this type of community and are willing to relocate. We only have 19 members in our free company and we are interacting with each other. We try to help each other on a daily basis.

We are on the Famfrit server. The Free Company is Merry Band o'Misfits. Send an in-game mail to Upoku Kupoku or /tell. I hope you guys find one that suits what you are looking for.
