I know what you mean. I have not played FFXI, but I have been part of some really great guilds in my previous games. I've been looking around and trying to find and join a FC that has a healthy population and isn't hardcore, but ATM on Ultros it's so rare to find one that recruits. So tired of playing alone

    RUsh to end game

I'm one of those players that does want to experience all of the content in the game but I prefer to do so at my own pace. With a few people that are fun to play with and have just as much fun doing random things as they do with endgame. I did form a Free Company more focused on the journey than the destination without completely losing sight of said destination since we'll all get there eventually.

It's so sad to hear from all of you stuck without a friendly FC/LS. I hope you guys find your home soon. If you happen to be around Balmung I'd gladly offer a place to stay, Mythopoeia is just the kind of FFXI-like community you're describing. We do our hellos and goodbyes (this stuff can matter surprisingly much!) and help people when they need the help. For quite a few time zones there's plenty of chatter even on weekdays, even with our comparably small member count.
I think this kind of community might be more common on the legacy servers? Judging by the announced server of the posters here anyway.

Unfortunately, FFXI and the gameplay style that creates communities like it, are either dead, or relegated to a very small niche. Games now are all about the WoW crowd, who need to be able to solo 1-level cap without ever speaking a word to anyone. If they can't do this, they immediately state the game is too hard and quit. Those type of people are catered to because they're the majority, and if they leave the game won't make money. This is one of the easiest games I've ever played, and because of that, there isn't really any incentive or reason for people to group up toward completing game content, so they don't. When no game systems exist to encourage and foster the creation of a community and friendships, obviously those things never come about. It's sad, but this is where we are with MMOs today.

At least the story content is decent and you don't have the feel of being just another mindless drone in the hive, with no character or distinguishing factors. :P
Then again, I agree that the content is kinda easy. I've heard that after passing the level 30 barrier there is a sudden difficulty spike.

Most I know who are rushing to 50 is because they want to do so and then focus on their RPing later on.

I'm sorry that you are in an LS that has people that do so, but that doesn't make them bad in any way. It is their way to play so it is best to realize such and continue to play how you enjoy the game.

I'm sure you can find others who follow your ideals and make a LS for yourself!

It makes them look manic-level Obsessive–compulsive, creepy and disturbing overall, if you ask me. You don't see football players practicing 24/7, having only a 5 hour break for sleep, or Olympic runners running 24/7 till they drop. In fact, most times you don't see people being so utterly, fanatically obsessed over anything anywhere, besides those playing MMOs to grind up a level.

And I don't think anybody here actually saw any 50's roleplaying. I thought the roleplaying I MMOs fad died out loooong ago.

No, instead you see them injecting steroids with various severe side effects like roid rage and shriveled up nuts and ruining their career if they ever get caught.

The only reason why I feel rushed to get to 50 is because one of my new besties in the FC is lvl 50, and I wana do the high level dungeons with him, but apart from that, I just want to follow the storyline and see what happens I have managed to find a FC which is awesome with everyone helping each other, and we hop on vent and talk about chocobos all day, it's great XD
