But the engine was still being built while XIV was, and is still as of now lacks many features. As a developer I'd like to know where your information is coming from lol. There is nothing cutting down our development time beyond needing to do basic infrastructure that engines take care of these days, e.g we no longer need to program a custom camera view point as they now come prebuilt in various setups.
XIV is a badly optimized rush job, that's it.
XIII and Versus XIII seems otherwise. XIV lacks features because it was rushed out and they wanted to make the game as different from XI as possible which included throwing out even the basics, you can't begin building a game before even the engine is near complete, XIV's development picked up around 2007, XIII was moved to the white engine/crystal tools around 2008 and finally finished in 2009, if you seen Versus XIII footage, it shows that it has features previous CT games didn't and it's been in development same time as well.
XIV as said, is an unoptimized rush job, design wise they decided to go against XI instead of build off of XI which was the main problem. It didn't have to be a clone, but every MMO out today builds off of some kind of base.
I think you missed my point. I was talking about the engine, lacking many features. Not XIV or any other game on CT.XIII and Versus XIII seems otherwise. Do you have experience programming in Crystal Tools? Please with your vast experience, also including professional references in using this system to program; explain what features the program does not allow for. Is the Client badly optimized and can that be fixed yes, but please you never used the engine before so don't spread rumors as to what it can and cannot do.
huh? What does "Programming in Crystal Tools" mean? You dont program in it, its an engine, it will use a typical embeded scripting language (i doubt its own right now).Do you have experience programming in Crystal Tools? You can also find the list of features online which have been published by SE.
Why dont you check the lists and look at what it lacks

Crystal Tools has only been stable for little of 2years, much-much less than developers who focus on the engine, SE focus on trying to do to much.
You also ignore the fact the features posted on CT are the FOCUS elements, at least read what you're trying to pass off as proof:Why dont you check the lists and look at what it lacks

It's a graphically focused engine, it doesn't "lack" features as it's a supplemental engine. The only thing is XIV was DESIGNED with a lack of optimized and basic features because they wanted to make it different from XI as well as having a server side UI heavily limits what you can do.The engine was developed with the aims of being able to create advanced facial animations and to have a single 3D format throughout the company.
I can agree with rush job, but FFXIV built off of classic MMOs like Ultima Online and Lineage as a base, and kept some similarities to FFXI like quest structure, world structure (3 starting cities and a fourth friendly city), similar battle dynamics ("holy trinity"), and races.
One day I hope to read one of your posts that doesnt end with "FFXIV strayed too far away from FFXI and that was their problem."
If anything, their problem was not straying away more.
