It wasn't that you misused English or used the wrong terms, it was how you said it. It might appear to someone that you are saying that everyone posting in this thread cannot understand friendship (possibly implying that they are stupid).

Generalization just means you attempted to define a very board number of people based on special conditions that might not necessarily be true, when you should be treating every person like a individual instead of a large group of people who have the exact same thoughts. This might offend some people.

EDIT: I should say that I'm not here to police how you post, I'm just pointing out that it might appear as trolling to some people.

I would love to respond but your opening post is filled with "insider" acronyms to the point that it is totally impossible to understand. As a new player yet a very very long MMO and fantasy and RPG and Final Fantasy story enthusiast and may i presume to say serious student,, I would love to know more about what you are saying: can you please expand ALL of the abreviations and explain so that others who are NOT part of the established player base can feel welcome and understand? otherwise you risk causing the very indiffernce you fear. Thanks and I am sincere about this, i would LOVE to be able share more here, but your post is impossible to understand...thanks

Recollection -- Missing the FFXI feeling...where is the feeling of a LS 'family'

Looking around at all of the FC and LS available in the game, I've found one or two that are fun and nice to be with, but one thing they all seem to share is the feeling of being 'rushed' to get to 50 and endgame. People using the FATE-grind method to get to 50 easily, sometimes bypassing the story quest in order to do so. Already with a gearscore coming, elitism will be even more evident than it is already.

Whatever happened to the days when a LS/FC was a group of people who just like playing TOGETHER? The days of getting on the game and looking to see who among the LS list was available to go adventuring, help with a quest (LB1...AF, coffers, etc.). I miss these things and wonder if anyone, anywhere, has a LS or FC that fosters this kind of feeling and that isn't focused on 'progression and the rush to endgame'.

And in before all those already 50s chime in calling me a casual, as though it is an insult. I played FFXI for 8 years from the time it was released // partied 1-75 pre-ToAU days and ended with a 90 WHM and NIN with full af3 +2, so I know what 'grinding' really is, and there is none of it in FF14...

I just wonder if there are any others out there who, despite all the flaws FFXI had, miss the kind of community we built there and have tried to rebuild something similar here? Seeing so many 'ragequit' posts and some of the ways people using DF are talked to, I worry..

I have a FC that carried over from 1.0.. the feeling is very FFXI like.. but most of the players played ffxi or 1.0.. one of the problems.. or lets not say problem; one of the things i dont like in 2.0 is that stuff is so easy you can go do everything alone.

There is no need to ask for help to someone nearby to party and do a quest or down a NM.. so you dont build that over time relation with other players from the 1-49 journey. sadly MMOs now a days are a BIG RPG WITH A CHAT FEATURE.... no need to relate with other players :S
Is all fast quick easy and dirty. if you dont like it.. cry enough and the devs will make it easier for you.

Let me try to explain a bit in his place.
LS: Linkshell, simply player-made chat channels, you can have up to 8
FC: Free Company, a standard guild, you can have only one.
DF: Duty Finder, given your level I presume you used it already

The rest of the terms come from the OP being an FFXI player, they're rather irrelevant to the entire discussion what they truly mean but it goes to the efforts of "I have grinded for a very, very, very long time" more or less.

I realize this is what an LS is kinda supposed to be, but I really wanted that group with FC perks. We can team up endgame anyway if we want to, just no hurry, and no forcing. Shame you are not on Goblin.
Please let me know what guild this is I am on Goblin with 2 different characters but am having a hard time finding a social guild.

    @CrisGer

Seriously? You didn't even bother to make a google search? I also didn't know what FC or LS meant, but google helped. :P

These are basic terms everybody here is using from what I see. If you don't know something then ask or google it. It's simple, there are at least a couple of FFXIV wikis. Come on, don't be lazy. ;D

    FC - Free Company (guild)
    LS - Linkshell (private chat)

The rest you can find out on your own. ;]

CrisGear the acronyms, mostly from XI but some also in XIV,are as follows:
    LS - linkshell
    FC - Free Company
Gearscore - you can wear it @50 but it says lv90
LB1 - Limit break 1 (quest to allow you to level beyond the first lv cap)
AF - Artifact (gear - same exists in XIV)
ToAU - Treasures of Aht Urgan (XI expansion)
    WHM - White Mage
    NIN - Ninja
    DF - Duty Finder

Just to clarify--this is much like the iLvl in WoW.

On every piece of gear, you see ITEM LEVEL XX. This isn't the required level for wear, it's more like an "evaluation" of the strength of that piece.

Back on-topic... I'm sure you guys will find a community, but bonds like you're looking fore take time to build.

Thanks all for the help clarifying those terms. I always forget that many didn't play FFXI and so often fall into using terms we were all familiar with. Also, yes Yoohre is right, I believe, in that since this game is almost totally able to be done solo, bar the story dungeons and such, there isn't the NEED to build friendships or a good reputation like it was in earlier games. Also, the duty finder makes it so others have very little accountability and there is no such thing as 'server reputation' as we used to have.

There isn't a "need," but it helps. Think about it...would you rather do things with total strangers who normally don't talk unless it's giving orders? Or would you rather do events with friends, be it friends you've known already or friends you just met in your Linkshell or Free Company?

I can easily say that it's a lot more of a grand experience with friends. Otherwise it feels like a chore.
