    This is completely insane. It screws over new crafters on legacy servers, as many of the old crafters have these materials stockpiled in numbers that are completely unattainable.

    On new servers, I can't convince anyone to let me HQ them some ** jewelry. No one is willing to pay the ludicrous 2250 tomestone cost when they can get darklight for a fraction of that, and it's nearly as good. There's no market for these items on new servers, even though there are plenty of crafters who can make them.

    The mat cost per synth, terms of tomestones, needs to be NO MORE THAN TWICE the mat cost for the darklight equivalent. 1.5 would be ideal. This is just foolish.

    What annoys me right now is some people apparently still have these items from 1.0? (Overpricing them on the marketplace.) Well, I had two full stacks of minium, but they changed it to cinnabar! How is this fair at all?

    Adding my ire to the pile.

    As someone with a few high level crafts, this completely kills it for me. It really feels like there's zero reason to have leveled either DoL or DoH.

    I was just shocked when i saw that i need 9 potash now for craft 1 vanya silk. I can understand that they want make it more difficult now, but 9, seriously?????

    Thats actually an excellent point. Why didn't they change ALL the mats into something semi-useless so that people couldn't skip all the grind.

    Darksteel ingot -> Darksteel nugget, Vanya Silk -> Twinthread, Coke -> Grenade ash, etc. Instead they made it so that select few have this stuff ready to create from at the start of service, but think its cool to screw everyone else over. Just a bit more proof that they didn't think this one through.

    Looks like they didn't waste time with the waste of time crafting/gathering system ey. The only thing crafters are good for is relic craft bitches, and they probably just bought theirs from someone that wasted all their time if they bothered with it b4 hard primals, for cheap too.

    Minium was a cheap and easy to gather item in 1.0 used for making quicksilver.. Just like Cinnabar is used in 2.0

    Yeah, I got to 50 weaver and got myself to the point that I could make Vanya gear, and now I see that's simply not going to happen, because it's simply not worth making compared to just buying Darklight. Very depressing. It would almost be ok if darklight was the top currently available (because then crafter's at least get to make the best for all the min-maxers) but when the crafted, HQ'd, materia'd gear is only better than the stepping-stone gear piece on your way to top gear, and there's no crafted competition to the top tomestone/grind gear, it makes crafted useless.

    In terms of long-term effects on server economies, I think this is a good thing (assuming they fix the lack of gil generation) with the perspective from rolling on a new server. I can ding 50 and buy a set of the crafted gear. I don't have to farm whatsoever. The benefit is a trade-off for large amounts of gil on the market board.

    IMO, this is why it should be more expensive than Darklight. Nobody has to level crafting, and there should be a trade-off in ease of effort for self-sufficiency. When geared, players can run dungeons for more Tomes to pick up mats to sell. Your buddy can't play until November, but he wants to raid with you when he gets on? Well you can help him buy his way in.

    There are far more pro's to this system than a system of complete self-sufficiency, from an economic standpoint. I think people are stuck in the idea of "I pick crafting to supplement my main", but this is a different crafting system that is more in the sandboxy direction. When I played a Blacksmith/Tailor in Ultima Online, crafting was a different game. Your goal is perfecting your crafts, and making gil. The goal in UO's system was never to be a great adventurer by way of your crafted gear. There is a lot of profit to be made for savvy trades/crafts-men here. I like that.
