Because eventually there will be so little gil in the economy nobody will be able to buy or sell anything for any price because everybody will be hoarding what little gil they have just so they can participate in content. It will become a regular multi-daily thing to look at your gear durability and calculate how much you can play today based on how much money leves will give you.

In reality, wealth is just a representation of the service you have done for someone else. If you make 3000 meat mithkabobs for people and sell them, they will give you gil. The only reason they have gil to give, is because they did something for someone else. In reality all we are doing is doing is serving the needs and wants of each other. The gil is just a representation of how much you have done for others and is a way to command the services of others in proportion to what you have done for everyone else.

Hey, good job trying to sound smart and all, but you still completely miss the point the OP is trying to make.

This is wrong and false and in complete disregard to almost every single economic concept imaginable. First of all - in real life there are no money sinks. The money ALWAYS goes somewhere but remains in circulation. In the game, money that gets given to THE GAME through money sinks (repairs, ah cuts etc) gets REMOVED from circulation. A money sink in real life would be akin to destroying traincars full of dollar bills (by fire) so they are irretrievable and unusable. Currency destruction. Second - real life economies PRINT MONEY. Thus generating the actual currency to use for products and services. True you cannot just print and print and print (or inflation rockets), but money DOES get generated in the real world.

If a single dungeon run doesn't drop enough NPC'able loot/pieces to cover the repair costs for that single dungeon run (a successful one I might add) then the system is broken and needs to be fixed.

Also after 35 pages I'm still shocked people don't understand this issue. The stupidity and ignorance on display is almost terrifying.

There is unlimited gil generation in this game as long as your able \ willing to roll up alts. Not as convenient as doing things on your main but the quest rewards and guildhests are great sources of money. Of course they may have to open up character creation on your server first.

Regardless it's already been mentioned by Yoshi that daily's are being added so once that happens the problem should be alleviated somewhat.

    Great point.

You'd think with people like this who think they're quasi economists the world wouldn't be in such dire straits financially right? Greece and Spain wouldn't be broke, there would be no more unemployed people. We would all be part of the 1% by now right?

EDIT: Think people missed the point. I was saying that the guy I quoted had a good point. People like the person that he quoted all act like they're quasi economists. Makes me wonder about this forum sometimes, if people are that inept or just that on edge due to all the log in issues.

Good thing a video game economy is exactly like a real economy, totally a fair comparison.

Not only did you not get the point but now you are trying to derail the thread with off-topic junk? Come on guys.

Point: More gil is disappearing from the world than entering the world. It doesn't matter that one individual has more than another because they sold a bunch of stuff. In the end, the total volume of gil in the world is shrinking day by day.

I'm amazed at the number of people (yourself included) who try to compare a game world economy with real world economics.

You are completely missing the point of an extremely simple concept. FF14 permanently removes currency from the game world, real economies do not.

Teleports, Air Ships, Chocobo Porters, Auction House transactions, Repair Costs all permanently destroy gil and remove it from the world.

Please explain to me what similar systems are set up in real world economies that permanently take away and destroy money. (This is rhetorical, there are no systems that function like this, please don't junk up the thread with more useless garbage.)

More Gil leaves the world than Gil enters the world. Simple as that.
Is there any independent confirmation of this? I doubt it.

I think most here are drastically underestimating the amount of Gil given out every day as quest rewards. Especially when you add in Allaghan metal pieces. It really, really adds up over time. And the velocity of money within the system, once it's added in, is huge.

I think it's pretty funny that a bunch of wannabe-economists here seem to think that SE didn't think about this, at all...
