Er, you can Display or HIDE the most dynamic ones and reduce the rest so they barely register on the GPU loading .. WTF are you on about?

Stop being cheap and buy a mid-range GFX card that will handle it just fine.

Complaining about graphical issues and/or framerate without posting what hardware you are running is just useless to anyone that might reply.

" If someone wants to play the game but can't handle anything beyond N64-level graphics, should they not still be allowed to play?"

No, absolutely not. You can't play this on anything lower than a PS3 so why should you be able to play it on anything less than the minimum? If you can't play it you can't play and you need to upgrade. That's the way it's always been. Squenix just has higher minimum requirements. I couldn't run a whole lot of the newer games on my laptop due to the requirements. Why should this be any different? I upgraded to a desktop and got it done and over with.

I have to set my settings to "Standard (Laptop)" to enjoy it, despite being on a stationary with the following setup:
    E8500 @ 3.64GHz, 295GTX, 8GB Ram.

I admit the setup isnt up-to-date, but its still a decent setup considering I run my games at 1900x1200, and I have not to date had an issue with any games... The Batman series ran fluently, and so did Bioshock Infinite. Even with the "Standard (Laptop)" settings, it still stutters from time to time, and it only gets worse when I join a FATE and other players are around. In Limsa its absolute horror...

I guess the toony graphics in WoW pays off, since everything in it runs like butter.

Perhaps it wasn't the best analogy. I would also expect everyone who wants to play this game to have a computer that least costs $100 which in this day and age would far exceed 'N64-level' capabilities. I understand that technology advances at a fairly steady pace and its not unreasonable to expect an increasing bare minimum of computing power. What we're saying though is there doesn't seem to be any real reason why certain graphics settings are not available to the player - not just to help improve framerates, but to push the visuals even further beyond what they are. Compare this to most other big-name PC games (not even just MMOs) and you'll see the number of available settings here are quite lacking. I don't have the minimum requirements for this so I can't be certain (I can run maximum at 50-60 fps but it's not entirely stable so I stick to Desktop(High) settings) but if the bare minimum computer setup can't get at least 30 fps in a raid setting on the absolute lowest graphics settings... you don't think thats a problem? I used to play games at 20 fps on average, dropping to 10-15 fps at particularly intense moments, and I thought it was fine. But once you actually get that big rig that never even stutters below 60 fps... you just can't go back. The difference in playability is crystal clear.

I'm also hearing the framerate is not as smooth as it could be on the PS3... and while I am glad the PC version was obviously not dumbed down because of it's sister release on console, I gotta say thats gotta really suck if PS3 owners are having performance issues - it's not like they can go upgrade their hardware.

Fair enough. I actually didn't really see what graphic settings you could or could not turn down. I am lucky enough to be able to run the game at max as well between 50-60fps so I set everything to max and forgot about it.

I was more responding to your comment about the N64 btu I get what you're saying.

With that said maybe they could have included a few more graphic options.

    PC Specs, 4-5 years old.

    GTS 450 (Overclocked)
    4 GB 1333 Dual Channel
AMD Phenom II Black Edition x4 965 3.4 GHz (4 cores unlocked)
    ASUS M4A7TDD Xtreme Design MB
    150GB PATA (that's right, PATA)

That PC build runs the game absolutely fine, and that was a mid level build 4 years ago. Cost around 600 parts, excluding mouse and monitor, because I didn't feel like waiting for them to be shipped and bought locally. You could probably build that same setup for 300 or less nowadays.

Even if you were to have the options you wanted for tweaking your graphics, your PC is obviously way underpowered and NEEDS to be upgraded. Remember, it's an investment. 800$ worth of equipment that will last upward of 8 years without having to upgrade? Yes please.

You have to tell us at what settings you're running. My setup, listed some few posts above, does not run fine. And as far as I know, a 295GTX should be way more powerful... and thats on top of the 8GB ram.
