You're already doing most of that as a THM though? What does the BLM add to the THM exactly?

THM brutalizes a boss (you're still using the same DPS spells you've had since THM aside from Flare)
    THM burns adds
    THM crowd controls
    THM kites
THM can actually look quite good doing it, RF gear isn't the only good looking (or black) caster gear

So in the end BLM gets what.. the ability to take hits and aoe damage. Which kind of proves the point people are making in this thread that the ultimate destructo-job adds protection, not destruction.

Not complaining too much because overall the class seems very solid, but I do feel that BLM is a bit underwhelming with all the utility spells. They could've just slapped those onto THM and gave BLM the procs like Thundercloud and Firestarter, and maybe throw in some more "Destructive" spells. I agree that it feels a bit rushed, but at least it's not as rushed as the Bard class .

I think BLM in general is too awesome for this game to contain. Can't give us Ultima or Quake or Tornado or (etc.) because it's too OP and if they do they have the tone down the damage and if they do we'd complain that the spells suck and we'd be back to where we are now. :-(

Reading this thread has almost swayed me to change to another class...I am 25 THM 15 ARC nearly ready for my BLM transformation...but really? It's not high DPS and I can't utilize all of my 'stolen' spells from the arcanist class? What is the point of taking on a job if you can't customize the spells you want to use like you can before choosing a job...or am I misunderstanding what I've read here?

Please let me know a 'powerful' DPS job/class to play, as I was informed BLM is the best. I don't want slow killing. I want to squash mobs quickly.

I think I do good damage, especially over long fights. AE Sleep makes me feel safe and useful too.
Also, Physick alone from Arcanist makes me extremely useful. I've tanked FATE bosses and dungeon bosses when the tank died. Umbral Ice means I can chain Physick all day...as long as I can out heal the damage being done to me.

If you want burst damage... does any DPS class do great burst?

The issue I have with BLM feeling "rushed" is that it already existed in 1.0 and it was just fine. They spent time making changes, like barriers, that are just a waste and don't fit BLM as a job. In 1.0 you could feel the difference between BLM and THM. Now the difference just has me scratching my head.

At level 50, it adds 20 INT, and 10 to the rest of your stats. Assuming you've dumped your stats into INT, that's almost an 8% increase in your magic attack power and a decent chunk of survivability.

If by "disappointing", folks mean "boring", I could understand the argument. If folks mean "ineffective", then I disagree vehemently.

BLM adds plenty to THM, and sacrifices very little. It adds punch to your destructiveness, more tools to your crowd control, and more survivability. It enhances every aspect of THM with a marginal hit to flexibility.

I find that starting to call my character "Black Mage" only once they reach level 30 is a joke. I hit 30, did the required quests, and then sat there a little confused as I realized that nothing had actually changed. I was still the same boring Thaumaturge that I was for 30 levels, only now I had a purple rock that said I was a Black Mage. Whoopdie freaking doo. Why didn't you just call me that from the start and make sure there was actually something interesting waiting for me after 30 levels in this class and 15 in another?

The ranged limit break that everyone uses shouldn't look more like a Black Mage spell than what I can cast. Level 30 is when I should have started getting face melting spells like a Firaga, Blizzaga, or Thundaga. (You know, spells that mark a Black Mage as a Black Mage?)

That's another thing, the names of my spells are incredibly boring and sterile. Blizzard 1, Blizzard 2, Blizzard 3. Blizzard 3 is the upgrade to 1 that 2 should have been and 2 should have been a completely different named spell all on it's own. Actually it feels like when going from Blizzard 1 to Blizzard 3 and Fire 1 to Fire 3 I skipped a spell in there in terms of effect. If you insist on using these boring 1, 2, 3 naming conventions then at least use them correctly.
