Crafting/gathering doesn't generate money. It takes money from other players (individual), but doesn't put money into the economy (entire server). You can vendor gathered items, but that is either a net loss or has a very negligible increase when taking into account the gil sinks that make gil disappear entirely from the economy.

You obviously don't know how economics works.

I'll be an idiot all the way to the bank. In my neck of the woods, generate also means make, like "making money." So yeah, crafting generates money FOR ME.
