Ok first off I'm really confused about something everyone defending FATEs keeps saying, how exactly does it bring people together? What because we all run in and spam attacks at the same time? No one talks, most people don't waste time grouping and there is no sort of teamwork actually going on. I tried doing FATE in a party for a while and saw absolutely no bonus to it so really it doesn't actually bring anyone together. Also for all of you saying it will fix itself when less people play there is a flaw there, no matter how many people are playing like every other MMO out there most of them will be DPS and waits for dungeons will still take forever. I'm currently leveling by dungeons but the wait is so long I'm stuck doing FATE while I wait because I have 0 quests to do, can run through my daily levequests in no time and just randomly killing is almost pointless unless I'm farming for something for my DoH jobs.
My biggest complaint though is how mindless and boring the FATE system is. People have mentioned the spam mobs that die super fast but you want lame go do a boss FATE on archer. You might as well be attacking a training dummy its so mindless. Maybe other jobs are more fun but so far I've tried PUG and ARC and both are super mindless and boring in FATE.

Ive read this thread and a lot of people are saying FATEs create bad higher level players. Well that's their own fault, Guildheists give a ton of xp and teach you how to be better at your role. If some people ignore them then that's on them even in the absence of fates they'll still probably be bad at their classes role. I personally like the change from questing that FATEs bring. It breaks up some of the monotony of fetch quests and Talkie quests

Guildhests only give good XP the FIRST time (you don't GET that massive bonus XP anytime after it only the 1k~ XP main reward which is worthless).

Personally I think FATE's just SPAWN far too often (Coerthas can have 8! up at a single time!? what the...) if they were simply "there" to break up monotony and such as you go they'd be fine. Behemoth/Odin/Gorgimera FATE's do it right... they spawn fairly infrequently yet give decent rewards if you Gold medal, but then you have FATE's like Roc of Ages in Coerthas.... 10k XP for 40 second fight(assuming you get Gold) that is almost certainly going to be back up in less then 10 minutes?!

Naw, it isn't the worst system imaginable. If you played 1.0 then you will know that the "barter mini-game" was the worst system imaginable!

You should look at Camp Bluefrog. There are 3 fates in short distance which all spawn infinite mobs and if people party up and never hand in the items you have a ton of XP for 13 minutes. Plea can give you 150K in 30 minutes + the reward from the fates. It is insane.

yeah the fates with multiple spawning mobs are a nightmare for a mellee dps (dragoon).
They spawn, they all get instantly tagged and nuked by AOE... its really hard to make a decent contribution :/
On the otherhand, the ones with a boss or a mini-boss that has a decent health pool can be fun.
The worst for me are the ones where you need to loot items and hand them in... its hard to get any items when the mobs die so fast and you are constantly running back and forth getting only one hit per mob :<

I love the idea of fates, they make the world feel more dynamic. They just need tweaked.

I don't really want to get started on the amount of god awful players I've come across in dungeons already. I'm not a super player myself or anything, however, there is a blatant difference between being competent, and being essentially inept. It's a trial of patience in some dungeon groups I've had the displeasure of taking part in.

Fates need to be nerfed BADLY. They provide to much exp to quickly, most people aren't doing anything else. They are allowing people to level far to fast and to level a class/job without learning how to play it. Its bad for the lifespan of the game if people get through everything so quickly and it is also bad for the in game economy if people don't have to buy gear from one another because it is so easy to get exp and skip upgrades.

FATEs have several issues. They are very similar to dynamic events from guild wars 2. Right down to the culling issue. In GW2 everyone was DPS though, and you didn't need to necessarily target anything so having visual on mobs was not important. In ARR you do need to target most things and in addition casters often get screwed because in the time it takes to cast a spell the mob is already done from the 100 other people doing it. FATEs are also the only reliable way to get a good amount of seals. Only other one is leve's but you have a limited amount of them.

As many have pointed out as well because of how many people are at them and how easy they are you do not learn to play your class at all and things get a lot more unforgiving as you level up. The average player going from FATEs to dungeons and hardmodes is going to fail hard. Some people will know what they are doing but they are the exception.

Once servers calm down and less people are playing so frequently, FATEs should be a lot less crowded. However, they do provide a lot more experience than anything else, so they'll still be more crowded than other things for the most part. I personally think they should cut FATE exp by a LITTLE (not much at all, but somewhat) and increase experience gained from levequests and dungeons.
