FATE System -- Worst Idea Imaginable

It's nothing but an AoE mindless spam fest.

Edit: It would seem boss FATEs are enjoyable and should be more frequent and/or tuned to be more difficult one way or another.

The FATEs that spawn multiple mobs constantly are the real issue; which need a complete reworking.

I think they are interesting, but yes, certainly someone involved in arr had to have played GW2 and saw how lame the public quests became there? When following purple dots on a map gives double the xp of doing an actual challenging dungeon (over a given time period), then something is wrong in my opinion.

Play the game the way you want, I personally enjoy Fates and dungeons.

You're not the only person with that opinion. Aside from diverting players from Dungeons it also makes Leves completely useless. Another effect is that sheer amount of undergeared and (real) party-unexperienced players that can't function normally in the easiest of dungeons.

Weren't FATEs originally thought to be a nice surprise for when you're in the area by chance? Either the frequency of FATEs should be lowered or the experience reward should be cut to a more reasonable value.

During the early beta phases these "were" fun, but now with the high server populations it's an aoe spam fast that is over within seconds of it starting. People who have their own chocobos and those who farm fates in packs of 50+ are piling in fast on them before anyone else can reach them and often I'm arriving just as it ends. They really need to last longer and be more harder because I'm getting barely any credit for that 1 hit I manage to get in on a mob before 50+ people smash it to death.

I was leery about coming back after 1.0 and I am more or less happy with how things have come along with the exception of FATES. They are game breaking, with extremely high xp reward they are pulling people away from any of the other content and causing people to level extremely fast without earning/learning their role. Pick up parties are, 9 times out of 10, incredibly painful thanks to at least one member having no idea how to play their role.

You could have the same FATE areas spawn but instead of a thousand people spamming, entering the area would drag you into an instance with an actually enjoyable fight. After a certain number of attempts/time the fate area despawns. This would allow people to run FATES because they actually enjoy them, or at least want to, as opposed to those who just want broken XP. It would also allow some NM/Boss fates to drop gear or other rewards without the monopolization that XI had. Some could be soloable and others would need parties of varying size

Eh, I am not sure what you are on about. I do play the game the way I want, so what you are saying is rather nonsense. Regarding FATE, I like them as well? They were fun at lower levels and even at higher levels as long as there is fewer people. Its just once you get in the 30-50 range they become surprisingly common, give massive amounts of xp, and form long cycles that can be farmed quite easily. It is asinine to think this is "balanced" or at all desirable except for those who are rushing 50 at all costs.

The problem with this is there is no other way to play the game and get anywhere. Dungeons/Guildhests give terrible experience after the first time and battlecraft leves with max bonus award only 2/3 the experience of a single fate. Fates currently give way more than anything else in the game, but a huge margin.

Dungeons are limited not to mention the long wait for DPS players.

I personally think that the boss FATES are strong enough but the ones with waves of mobs needs to be more tougher and last longer since they're being zerged too quickly that if you don't manage to claim your own target the exp and gil you get are weak. That is a challenge in itself however since most people tag mobs either with aoe or just hit it and run to the next one so that they can get any drops for having tagged it first, even if they don't do most of the damage. I've seen the same thing happen with quest mobs too.
