Additionally, Cid's surname in FFXIV, Garlond, is slightly modified reference to Garland, the main antagonist of FFI, and an antagonist in FFIX (it's pronounced the same anyway).
Don't forget the father of Highwind, Kain Highwind! Well, although he's not that significantly related to airships. (he was still a commander of airship force though)
