Cause every big MMO launch ever went super smooth. A bad launch makes a bad game eh? I remember my WoW server being down for days at a time when the game first came out... That game failed horribly apparently...

That was the launch for WoW. This is the second launch for FFXIV. Remember how the first one went?

WoW was what? almost 10 years ago? So learning from past mistakes should be thrown out the window correct?

I dont understand what is so hard to comprehend here, Reboot the servers get rid of all the bots and people idling and let other people in. is it really THAT hard to understand?

From what I've seen, everyone trying to log back in would probably crash the lobby server.

Because rebooting is totally fair to the people that are actually logged in, and playing, that end up getting 1017'd when the servers come back up and everyone ultimately tries to force their way into the servers.

The way it works on any competent (i.e., every one but S-E) MMO is this:

Log on, servers are over capacity, go into a queue. Window pops up "We're sorry blah blah blah you are #4321 in the queue, estimated time til you can log on: 5 hours, 20 minutes" None of this "World is Full, Come Back When Your Psychic Powers let you know there is room."

And of course an idle/afk log out feature.

This is the BASICS, the stuff every one knows who has ever played any MMO at launch.

Next, communication. Yes Square Enix, you're sorry. I'm sorry, we're all sorry. I don't want to hear it. Instead what I would like to hear is "We will be deploying new servers in X days, and in Y days we will be providing free server transfers to less crowded servers. If that does not fix the problem then in Z days we will deploy more servers."

The problem with this statement is that it is still is a common occurrence in today MMO, despite it happening 10 years ago. So the act of thinking it still shouldn't be happening today vs. it does still happen today doesn't match up.

There's no problem with his statement.

The only reason humans are where we're at now in terms of civilization is the ability to learn from past mistakes. To carry knowledge forward. Without that, we'd be nothing more than semi-hairless apes.

It's disgusting seeing people make excuses for this company. They knew what to expect. They knew the kind of demand they'd have. They were aware of pre-order sales. To then go into this completely unprepared for a worst case scenario, to not have additional servers available to handle higher-than-expected loads, to not have proper procedures already laid out in the event that some kind of critical error did occur.. that's just hubris, and quite possibly, greed.

A couple things about that though... Blizzard communicated with the player base about how they were going to fix it... then they did it.
The MMO market is a completely different dynamic today than it was when WoW launched, back then you had a few choices at most but today you have more choices than you can count. All those choices make it much easier for people to just give up on a game... so in a lot of eyes yes a bad launch can give an impression of a bad game.
