Having issues in Beta...fine. Having 1017 during EA, not cool but you can expect errors will be fixed by launch. Now, getting error 1017 at launch...this is unacceptable. What is the excuse now? I was part of beta3 an beta 4 and as far as i know this was for test stress servers. WTF happened? Makes me think betas were more a marketing strategy to create hype than actual tests. So far SE has solved shit!!!! This is definetly the last game I buy from them.
when do we will solve this problem?
i would like to play... since sunday.. i cant.. just server full.. server full...
Most of you are expecting that SE "fix" the issues by programing and maintenance but let me inform you some things first.
First: It is not a software problem, they just don't have enough hardware (machinery) to run the population on NA servers. What happen is, they have the SAME number of severs/computers in Japan as they have in North America (those are all in Montreal, Canada). So that’s why Japan servers are not suffering login issues.
They BADLY underestimated how much players would play on THE REST OF THE WORLD and they may even had thought that they would have more japanese players than non-japanese. The servers just can't hold the amount of non-japanese players. There's no magic maintenance that can fix that. They HAVE to buy more machinery on Montreal and install it right away.
Second: You think I'm defending and justifying for SE? Not at all, and here's why.
This was a bad, baaaad move on their part. No respectable company start any kind of business without doing a SURVEY to estimate how many people are interested in the game. This kind of survey WORKS and its used on any kind of anything you sell to massive ammounts of people. Square Enix already KNOWS how much the Final Fantasy games were sold ever since more than 20 years ago and they also know that their last sales (FF12 and 13) were also well sold (at least "sold enough").
And "not doing the survey" or "underestimating the player base" maybe COULD be a lame excuse for them screwing up on this. But then, from the last beta, they immediately began to sell the PRE-ORDER and from monday to friday they already knew how much people would be LOGGING IN THE GAME because THEY BOUGHT THE GAME! And even then, from open beta until now, they didn't bought a single hardware to expand servers capacities. They're not showing sign of giving a single... ok I'm gonna say CARE, about non-japanese player base.
Third: Want to rage more? Look at this http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...d7c59b9e695188
Japanese servers ARE NOT getting overwhelmed by japanese logins, but they are PREDICTING that the player base THERE is getting bigger and so they are PREVENTING them from getting ANY login difficulties, by expanding the japanese servers in advance. So they're doing THERE what could and should be done on NA servers ever since open beta closed and ever since they knew EXACTLY how many people bought the game outside japan (and YES they know where every buyer comes from because they use IP recognition to build a graphics to know how the product is being sold on the world).
So yeah, even now, when they also don't have the excuse of "limited starting budget" because you ALREADY PRE-ORDERED THE GAME, they used the money to buy more hardware on Japan. So yeah, defend Square Enix all you want, but that’s what just happened. And I think that some day (and maybe not soon) they will buy hardware for NA datacenter and we'll all breathe calmly after weeks of headache...
But I just want you to remember this: you're not their priority, not by far.

Fan boy, much? Idle timers are a must. There's no excuse for not having them. See quote below:
No one cares about "next week" everyone who is legacy, or bought the game, or has paid for a subscription cares about right now. Even the MMOs that filled their servers never hit a login queue cap. If you can provide justification for why players shouldn't be logged out when they idle for 2 days, I'd love to hear it.
@bwalker36: Square hasn't refuted the claim; it sure looks that way.
An extremely easy solution would be idle log out timers that reset when actions / messages are sent to the server and character origin shifts. This is extremely easy to program. Extremely.

In the spirit of being fair - you have to think, most of us weren't in Beta, and not even in p4beta because it was only 3 days long. most ppl just decided to wait for launch, so when they based thier predictions on beta numbers its no suprise that the servers then got destroyed on launch, though that is not an excuse for not being able to flex and respond.Having issues in Beta...fine. Just got back from college, doing some paperwork thinking that at least on the week maybe I could play more until they fix this and no. Still cannot get in. I really don't know what they were trying to do in beta with us. Just see everything run smoothly but we are not in beta anymore. Nobody can play. I seriously like this game, I even gave up on my 6 years of wow for this. This will be my next mayor MMO. BUT, seriously, as much as I love it, I WILL not pay 15 dollars a month for a 10% or less chance of playing it. I paid for it so I wanna play whenever I hit the play button. Another thing is that we are still having beta issues and it's already launch. That is just out of this world. The amount of ignorance that they are in is amazing. They are probably not reading any forum threads at all, except Japanese ones. Seriouslly, I love the game, but if you don't fix this, give us more servers, free character transfers and way better customer service you do NOT deserve ANYONE to play your game.
One reason a company would even have pre-orders is to gauge their overall sales prediction. I can't believe they were not prepared......
Is SE really expecting people to sub to a game we can't play? SUB for a chance to click START a million times all day every day and if you get in, get disconnected, guys! Fun times. Crashing and burning once again.
Wowowow Japan facilities increasing while they slap us NA/EU people in the face over and over. SE, you make me fucking sick.

Player
SWTOR is a base example of a game doing great on release and trickling off shortly after the trial period dropped. The login issues continuing will likely cause the same to happen to ARR.
SE doesn't want a(nother) SWTOR. So I hope there is some serious work being put into servers, because overall people like the game (XIV ARR) very much, when they can login.
