This does seem like a good solution for most people but I'm afraid to try it since it says they can only do this one time. My problem is that when I canceled my first preorder of FFXIV, I ended up some how creating another service account with my new up-to-date preorder. Thing is though, I can still log into characters from my first preorder unlike other people but maybe that will change since I did all of this today (August 25, 2013). My problem is quite similar to all of you. Since the mess of PSN pre-orders (CE in my case) I had a pre-order code from amazon (which I cancelled) anyways I didn't want to miss Early Access, so I used while still in wait for SONY/SE to fix my PSN pre-order. And it worked, one day later I got my message through the PSN so I downloaded the game again (CE) and when I logged in, I didn't see any options to pick my only service account, so I just went through the "next" button, to later find out that now I had two service accounts, "Service Account 1" with my main and only character and "Service Account 2" with no characters at all. Both service accounts seems to be working well. But all I want is my "Service account 1" working with the CE bonus plus my main and only character "Juvian Black" on Goblin. I did used that link to fill for a request on fixing this. I just hope they reply soon with a fix. But this mess could have been avoid if SONY/ES did they job right in the first place.
Good news everyone, I'm in the same position and have two service accounts with early access because of the situation described above. Just right now when I logged in I got a prompt to apply my FFXIV CE to one of the service accounts and successfully applied it to the service account with my character on it.
