Transferring Character Data to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Questions

Characters being transferred from Version 1.0 will get to make their characters over one time, will that be during early access or Beta Phase 4?

This is scheduled for phase 4.

Modifying Version 1.0 Characters
The appearance of Version 1.0 Characters can only modified when logging in for the first time after the start of official service. You cannot perform changes during phase 3 of the beta test.
* If you believe your Version 1.0 character data has been improperly transferred, please contact the support center.

So which is it? Phase 4 or launch? When exactly will my choices be locked in? We need a straight, 100% accurate answer. This conflicting info is just going to confuse and anger a bunch of people when they get it wrong without even knowing until it's too late.

You guys had also better make it clear in-game when any character changes will be permanent. I'm sure there's tons of people that don't keep up with the Lodestone news that won't hear about this, and they ought to be notified too of when their last chance to make changes is.

Sorry for the confusion, the latest information on Lodestone is the more accurate. Character data can be transferred over from Beta Phase 4 to launch, and on launch a character edit flag will be activated for 1.0 players giving them a chance to change their character's appearance once.

This final edit has to happen in early access imo as that's the start of our "reborn" characters journey for pre-order peeps.

Also meteor survivor players having a unique intro sequence sounds pretty cool. I didn't think of that, but it makes sense compared to getting "new player" intro on old characters.

You mention Appearance can I get a confirmation that we will be able to also Rename our character as well during this process. Also how will the Naming Hierarchy work w/ regards to newly created non Legacy or 1.0 players should the Renaming happen in Early Access as opposed to it happening in Phase 4 and data be saved from Phase 4/

I know confirmation has been a long time coming on this one, and we're glad to finally detail how this will work! When you log into A Realm Reborn for the first time with your old character (specifically after phase 4), you will have the ability to redo any aspect of your character -- one time only. This includes the ability to change your name.

Everyone's getting a second chance at a first impression!

When creating a character, if you choose a name that's already taken, a message will pop-up saying “This name is already in use.”

In the event that someone has the same exact first name and last name after we transfer characters from FFXIV 1.0 into the worlds used in ARR, we will check who originally had the name determined by certain priorities. As for what those priorities are, we will be announcing this on Lodestone in the future.

I know they later posted the priority... need to look for that... will edit if I find...

Regarding the World Transfer
All character data will be transferred, with the following exceptions:

Character Names
After the transfer, if two or more characters with the same first and last name exist in the same World, only one character can keep the name, based on the order of priority below.

1. Characters that qualify for Legacy status.
2. Characters whose subscriptions ended after September 30, 2012.
3. Characters that were created first.

In the event that your character must be renamed, please enter a new name by following the on-screen instructions when you first log in following the World transfer.
* Players may voluntarily rename their characters even if their name takes precedence.
