You should already know by now or at least the end of phase 4 whether you like the game or not. You don't need a free trial on top of that to come to that conclusion. People are raging over small stuff.

No early access is ever longer than a week per industry standard. There's no indication that it's going to be longer for this game.

A long early access is a whole different can of worms, and it's going to make a lot of people unhappy, as it places those that won't have access to it at a radical progression disadvantage compared to those that are in it.

And even if it was a month long, the early access is not a free trial. It's not open to everyone.

This makes it completely useless to lure back those that quit 1.0 and are skeptical about the game.

Only those that preorder or are legacy get early access, not everyone does. Most of the skepticals won't preorder and aren't legacy, meaning that those that need a free trial most won't have it. That removes a lot of precious momentum from the release of the game.

Only there was. The original document gave hard dates: October to November - Free Trial Starts -> Post January - Free trial ends. That means two to four months depending on how you read it.

People will feel entitled to what Square Enix promises, and Square Enix promised a free trial, that isn't being delivered.

If they didn't want people to feel entitled to it, they shouldn't have mentioned it.

Only, it's not about me. I know I like the game now. There are 800,000 people out there that tried 1.0, and a lot of those are rightfully skeptical, and could make a difference between a strong launch and a weak one.

But can always count on some of the people about here to turn a discussion which is about the whole potential playerbase into something about "you!"
