Given that the document says the free trial period commences before the game actually goes on sale, I'd say they are considering beta phase 3 and 4 to be the "Free trial period".

Only they are not, as they obviously don't offer a trial of the game. They are a beta, and a beta isn't made to try the game. It's made to test it.
People that have no arguments often resorts to pictures. It has nothing to do with privileges. It has to do with promises. If SE wasn't confident to be able to offer a free trial to returning players, they simply should not have promised it.

Anyway you want to interpret it you got about 3 months to come up with 10 bucks. This should not be a big deal.!!!!!
They promised a free period before launch. Not 30 days of free play after launch.
We are getting the former: it's called "Early Access."
Again: that's not what they promised: They promised a period of time BEFORE LAUNCH where we could play for free. We are getting that. No promise has been broken. If SE wasn't confident to be able to offer a free trial to returning players, they simply should not have promised it.
No, it's the "Early Access" period, between phase 4 and official launch.Given that the document says the free trial period commences before the game actually goes on sale, I'd say they are considering beta phase 3 and 4 to be the "Free trial period".
Besides all that, we have been given an incredible amount of free play time over the years, not the least of which has been this beta.

Early access is not available to everyone, so it doesn't apply (it also doesn't last months like the promised free trial). They promised a free trial, not a beta. I'm quite sure you're aware of the fact that "free trial" and "beta" are two entirely different concepts. They promised a free period before launch. Not 30 days of free play after launch.

Can't see past the "YOU YOU YOU!" standpoint mh? Maybe you should consider the wider consequences instead of just knee jerk attacking someone that moves criticism to your beloved company. It's obvious that the few that are left here will play and pay, me included. The problem isn't me or us. It's the hundreds of thousands of people that quit the game because 1.0 was crappy, and now are rightfully skeptical.
I can see a lot of people that would have given the game a second chance with a Realm Reborn not even bothering now if they have to pull out the credit card before they can see that the game is really reborn with their own eyes.
And honestly I can't blame them. It simply a very bad business decision.
PS: multiple exclamation marks don't add any solidity to your point.

Seriously dude you worry too much. SE Will be ok.Early access is open to everyone, so it doesn't apply. They promised a free trial, not a beta. I'm quite sure you're aware of the fact that "free trial" and "beta" are two entirely different concepts.

There was no bad business decision. You get to play for free during early access. This was something we were getting regardless of whether we preordedre the collector's edition or not. Everyone else has to buy the game, we don't.And honestly I can't blame them. It simply a very bad business decision.
The early access period is our free period. The only way you could argue this as going against their promise is to argue that because people can now buy in to that free access period, that it doesn't represent that anymore, but I don't agree with that.
All 1.0 players played for free for so long that I don't feel like those complaining about this have a leg to stand on.
I don't think the issue in question even comes close to comparing to the issues that led to 1.0's faliure.
People are crying about one month's payment. Many of us have been playing MMOs for years. This is not a big deal.
