It's always nice to see a positive article about FFXIV, they need all of the good publicity they can get. That being said... I find this article to be a little... thin. Between fairly poor research, odd statements like the one Anonymoose quoted, and the just plain kind of dull examples they gave, I'm having a hard time liking that article. Anyone reading that is basically going to take these three things from it - probably in this order: Look, you can jump! You can now play more genders for the same races! The director plays a lot of video games!

I'm always glad to see positive articles but.... This one is sort of like someone coming up to you and saying, "Wow, you look pretty good for a slob!" Yeah it's a complement, but I just don't get that warm fuzzy feeling from it.

Nice article. It's not perfect, but it's a bright, brief intro to ARR.

To get the level of detail we're accustomed to, a reporter would have to spend either countless hours digging through lodestone posts, or countless weeks playing the actual game, which isn't available at this point. I thought it did mostly well, considering it obviously wasn't meant to be an in-depth, epic-length article.

I still think SE should release a press kit or other materials to help journalists promote the game. Hopefully they'll have it ready before E3, or the best coverage will continue to be exclusive to fan/reporters from small and medium-size videogame news blogs.

To be honest, doing research is a reporter's job. That's part of what they're paid for, and misinforming one's readers is the worst thing one can do.

Personally, I have to write a ton about games I know nothing about. When I do so, I make sure my facts are straight, even if I have to spend hours researching (and with the internet, researching isn't exactly challenging).

I've seen a trend of extremely poor quality reporting on ARR, because the writers didn't care to do their homework, and that's bad, no matter how you look at it.

Maybe it's coming from an unbiased source which is great, but also he must never ever play MMO's or video games online. I mean.. even CoD saves your progress online he has to know this if he works writing articles for games, right? Right??
