Seriously. We are the unsung heros of Eorzea. Yoshi's great and all but it's obvious us DoLs are just background noise to him.Super disappointed. SE needs to get on the ball with interesting and fun content for DoL/H. LOTS of opportunities for fun there. Think Harvest Moon instances where you raise your own crops/animals for gathering/wool/etc. Or MMM style Mines for Miner where you can build out your own mine and get special items etc.
Instead DoL/H always get the short end of the stick - nevermind none of the other classes could function without them!!!
It's a real shame too. I actually fully support his idea of forcing everyone to have at least one battle class leveled to at least 10, but still, there's so much potential with us gatherers and crafters. Anyone who's ever played Eve knows of the years old argument/fight between fighters and carebears. Those who do combat cannot for the life of them understand why anyone would ever enjoy mining. It's become obvious over time that Yoshi is one of these people... I don't think he actually understands that some of us find gathering and crafting a lot more fun than fighting, and to be just pushed aside and tossed scraps now and then is really... disheartening, I suppose.
Maybe one day...
Geeze Llen
They just said "DoL/DoH won't have jobs but we are planning special content for them"
Where are you drawing the conclusion they... Won't have content for them?
Like... They just won't use the same growth system as battle classes, which is pretty okay...
There's a lot more to it than just this dev post. The way the new gathering mechanics work, the way the so-called "treasure chests" will work, other things that I can't remember the source to right now... I'll admit that there is definite room for growth, but right now it seems like Yoshi's thoughts towards gatherers are "no one actually likes gathering, so let's make 'em fight. Everyone loves fighting, right?"
I honestly can't remember where I read about the treasure chest stuff, so it might be safer for me to just keep my mouth shut. Still, I'm worried. I'd think most of us who enjoyed gathering in 1.0 are at least a little worried.
I quite enjoyed gathering in 1.0, and I personally like the changes I see to gathering. I much prefer getting what I want from a tree than having a random chance.
"However, they are planning on adding new content in which these classes can participate"
Doesn't sound like they're putting a whole of effort out for us. I mean, its to be expected i suppose. The new gathering system is fine, thats not really what we're talking about. Its just hard when a group of us really loved something that just got swept aside because someone doesnt really give a shit about it.
Just the way of things I suppose. With every change to a game, someone is going to get burned. In this case it was us gatherers. Here's hoping Fishing wasnt the one hit the hardest, as it so far seems to be."However, they are planning on adding new content in which these classes can participate"

I guess we just interpret things differently. I take that sentence to mean that we're getting content for these classes over and above what we already have/know about. To me adding content means they are putting in effort. Unlike a lot of MMOs that never touch crafting/gathering after they've "balanced" them we're getting more stuff. Sure it won't be as much as the combat classes get, but that's because the combat classes have always been and always will be the main focus of any game. Until we know what all the content is, I can't see being told we're getting content as something to be disappointed about."However, they are planning on adding new content in which these classes can participate"

Ya true, we have no idea what any of what this really means. The wording just sounds like "more Hamlet" to me, but i'd be more than happy to be wrong lol.I guess we just interpret things differently. For what it's worth Hamlet was pretty revolutionary even if it had the most godawful execution.
"Large-scale conflict content where crafter/gatherer has an active role" is definitely not a thing I think I ever saw in an MMO (and perhaps it might have existed in EVE? I don't know much about that arcane game).
"A much improved Hamlet" would be great
