Ah and also, 1Gbps downstream? So-Net Japan recently started offering a 2Gbps down/1Gbps up connections in Tokyo... For a price even cheaper than Google...

I'm technically abler to get up to 10mbps here, because i'm paying for the best I can get. But I usually end up with 5-7. Midco's fiber lines are not bad by any means, but its not anywhere near the stuff I will be drooling over for a decade before I actually get it.

What we got is the best we technically can get over here. Really sucks, because for the money we could have much more speed *sigh*

I think you are confusing megabit with megabyte there... 3500kbps = 437kb/s, subtract overhead for PPPoE and you get my maximum of 375kb/s down/ 49kb/s up... so be happy with your 600~700kb/s! *shakes fist*

To be perfectly clear, you mean 3500 kbps = 437 kB/s, the capitalization of the B is important to separate bits (b) vs. bytes (B). The p vs. slash for 'per' sort of does the job but its still just a little ambiguous.

But your math is fine translating the ISP advertised speeds to those we actually deal with when downloading files. (Stupid shady advertising techniques, don't get me started on hard drive packaging using giga- as 1000 instead of 1024... or Microsoft Points being oh so close to 1 point per penny but not quite...)
