Lucky people in Tokyo.I'd already be happy to have 16mbit here. All they can give me atm is 3,5Mbps....
Ah and also, 1Gbps downstream? So-Net Japan recently started offering a 2Gbps down/1Gbps up connections in Tokyo... For a price even cheaper than Google...
What makes google fiber a big deal for me is that its going to turn cable companies on their heads.
Google doesn't seem to give a flying rats *** about the monopolies on television and internet.
Which is good because it hinders improvement drastically. Regardless though, 1gbps is far higher than what I get now. And far higher than any company can offer in the states.
I only wish I had the option to have it now, and not 10-15 years from now when its the standard.
I have no issues with Google as of right now, I love Chrome and I use Google as my go-to search engine. That being said, if you want to talk about monopolies, you should start worrying about Google. They are forming a depth (rather than breadth) monopoly on the internet.
Between Google Chrome, Google Search, and the various Google apps, they already have massive market share on Layers 5-7. With the addition of Google Fiber, they are making in roads into Layers 1-4. If you use Google Fiber with Google Chrome, Google owns your data from start to finish. If you're the type to worry about monopolies that right there is somewhat worrisome. (This may actually be inaccurate, I'm not sure what deals Google has made with local providers like Comcast to utilize their routing).
Not to mention the greatest irony of Google Fiber is that you will almost certainly only get 10% of that throughput in the end. 802.11n standards only are capable of transmitting ~150Mbits/s at best (many actually are closer to ~60Mbits/s). Google Fiber comes packaged with 802.11n routers, so any wireless connection is going to be capped at barely over 1/10th of your theoretical capacity. CAT6 will get you there, but only if you're willing to be physically tethered to your router; something that has become more and more uncommon.
Fortunately here is Australia, the fibre network is being built by a government-owned corporation. Hopefully, we'll be ok.
in your brain, thrusting your good dreams away~Guys, I think I need help. I can't stop THINKING.
I just had the mental image of Dhalmel in a shining golden sublingar pelvic thrusting the ocean in two jesus style. Denmo is streaking across the sky above like a comet with his glowing beard in this scenario.
HALP. ;_;
I'm going to attempt to sleep now....
And stop eating these jelly beans....
I am, ask vergil. Had the Gold Pan and a bunch of multi meld gear just for my Culinary Class.
"Iron Chief? HA *slaps on gold subligar* GOLD CHIEF BI$@HES!"
