Onto a topic though, im curious about what you guys think of it.

    The Oculus Rift. http://www.oculusvr.com/

With many big name developers getting behind the technology, do you think that this will be a really cool device for consumers in the future.
I tried it, and it's absolutely fantastic, but it has a problem, and a big one.

The big problem about the Oculus Rift is that it requires a VERY powerful machine (it really needs to run a game near to a constant 60 fps with vertical sync to work well, and multiplied by two). So basically if you'll want to enjoy it with a current generation game, you'll always have to have a PC that's very near the top end of the spectrum.

That limits the viability of the Rift as a mass market product by a lot (don't ever expect to see it on consoles for instance), as most gamers besides the most enthusiastic hobbyists with a lot of disposable income simply won't be able to justify mantaining a top-end PC constantly updated and buying the rift as well.

IE: At least for the foreseeable future it'll be a very cool thing, for few.

And that's just the devkit... they want to bump the resolution on the release version to 1080p. I do think it's a very cool thing, first step to .hack//-type games being viable

As for games, it seems it's pretty easy to port existing games to the Rift, Team Fortress 2 got ported to it pretty fast. Hawken has support for it afaik, too. Doom3 BFG edition was supposed to be bundled with the devkit of Oculus, but something got delayed and they called it off. Then there is that one exploration oriented game... what's it name... (edit: this one)

Anyway, more games will surely follow, but it seems like they are focusing on fps. Some people will have problems with disorientation while wearing it, those won't be able to use it, sadly. I wish I could try it myself... my next PC upgrade will most likely be done for Oculus - if it kicks off and they make some MMOs supporting it.

I was disoriented the first few minutes trying it with hawken. Stomach was seriously in a knot. Once I got used to it, though, it was pretty natural. I don't see it as something I'd use for long gameplay sessions though.

I'd probably love to use it with Star Citizen, considering how they're handling cockpits, but the game already seem like it'll be a true hardware hot, so I can't even imagine what kind of machine it'd need in order to play it at maximum detail with the Rift. Most probably a machine out of my monetary range lol.
