Yep, Erik the scholar in the Monk questline mentions how Sil'Dah (dunno the proper spelling there, sorry) fell into disgrace as they tried to use the undead to defend their city from Ul'Dah in a past war (or something similar, someone correct me).
Their disaster is one of the reasons why bringing the dead back is taboo for thaumaturges
