No, the only reason bots exist is because the developers are too lazy to hire actual investigators. All bots look the same. All bots behave the same. How they're coded doesn't even matter. It'd be like our society that didn't hire any cops...just accountants that monitored for transaction and data anomalies. That's their approach because it's cheaper and in a perfect world that'd be the best solution.

But in this one, we just need GMs to watch these ****ers for 5 minutes. 5 minutes. Well sorry, that costs 11 bucks an hour. GM automatons cost almost nothing.

Therefore, you get the impotent STF and GM-less GMs.

Why not just use Beastman bounty hunters again for gathering bots, and then all you have to do from there is figure out how to deal with crafting bots. GM jail would be easiest, but just like in real life, most are just going to fall back into botting once they are out.

How do other MMOs usually deal with this, other than bans?

They use a gameguard/shield/process monitor type of software that catches the basics but are still circumvented, soo while they ban, bots of all types still pop up.

    It's like roaches.

Mind you, botters aren't even paying for the game yet, so their presence is nothing but detrimental to the game and SE at this moment. Botters should be removed, It is in SE's rights and interest to remove them, and the community will suffer if they are left alone. The very hint that botting is tolerated will only make botting- and the illegal activities that go with it- more pervasive.
Thanks for the lesson but most of us realize what botting does to a game. I didn't say its a good thing or that I like it. What I am saying is that people are not being realistic to think SE is going to crack down on such a large percentage of their player base so early.

Not to mention that this software is essentially a rootkit you have to install to play the game which also makes your PC open to attacks since the software is not updated frequently enough. Plus, removing this type of software can potentially break your OS. So I REALLY hope SE won't decide to use something like that.

FF11 had the same issue. I knew players banned for rmt buying. I knew players hacked by rmt's. I watched as bots made the game more difficult or less fun because SE had to inact anti-botting measures. My opinion is if players want to buy gil then SE should sell it. I personally think this gives an unfair advantage and takes away from the game itself. If SE is not the one selling the gil then they need many strong measures to combat it, including having immediate investigation for a legitimate rmting claim. I think most players can deduce when there is botting occuring. RMTing activity is the only thing in the game that takes away from my enjoyment. Also, in 11 the rmters continually took advantage of the free trial offer. They got banned and came back again on a new free trial account. When SE finally does start charging I hope they do not give unlimited free trial offers without a credit card to back it up; I think that would help rmting activity decrease dramatically.

If enough evidence against a bot or RMT character has been found, instead of banning it, SE should flag that character as being able to be player killed.

    Loads of entertainment, right there.

One thing about SE is they like to wait until they have a lot of bots on file. I know they are fighting bots, RMT, hackers, what have you. its smarter to wait til they find a good amount of them, flag them, watch what they do i.e who do they trade with, who has all the gil. its like the DEA who builds a case against a drug lord. let the lil fish swim so you can catch the big one. wait til they feel like nothings going to happen, then BAM, ban 50% of the server population for botting.

that'll take gil out of the economy and slowdown the networks of botters and RMT. banning 1 botter won't really do anything since RMT use stolen credit cards to buy and create accounts so he'll just make a new one.
