If Able, Would You Change Your Name To Meet Racial Conventions?

Funny thing his how my name for my Midlander Hyur is nearly spot on lore-wise. I just need to write it out and provide some explanation.

When I created this guy, the first name "Jacien" was originally parts my Xbox Live GamerTag rearranged. I realized that it's close to Jason/Jace which is of Greek origin (not exactly Anglo Saxon, Celtic, and Briton) but it's similar to Jaxon/Jayden which are popular names medieval names. I assume there had to be a few people named Jason during the medieval era, right?

Plus, regarding real life, I learned from my mother I was to be originally named Jason before she changed her mind at the last second to something else, entirely. So I'm super comfortable with the first name how it is.

Now for the surname, "Visenad", this was actually a rearrangement of parts of my full name. Following these conventions, this really doesn't pertain to a profession or an outward feature (unless the vicing of nads is a profession). But with the magical power of imagination I can say that my character is from a distant location (a town or community) called Visenad.

I'm also writing a little background for my character for the heck of it that is lore-friendly to Eorzea (and not recycled trope garbage like avenging a clan or something). I'm even on working on incorporating direct relatives! After all, as a Legacy player, I can make so many characters!

That's pretty much it. This is the amount of thought I put into something so trivial when I could've just created a character called "Huge Jackedman" or something. I think I am going into the dark-side of RPing. :P

Also, I hope people know or are told later that you don't have to make your character's name follow these conventions. It's merely knowledge to have if you want to immerse yourself further when playing in Eorzea.

EDIT: This Advanced mode of editing makes adding bold/colors a lot easier! I never knew about it!

Sniffle...sniffle...Visenad sounds like a believable last name, given that it is also a believable village name. I love the sound of it. I also have secretly adored your name as a whole for some time now (okay, for like, two weeks only), but didn't see a proper place to mention this.

That is to say, don't change your name. If nothing else, your mom or dad could have been bad at spelling, meant to name you Jason, and ended up with Jacien instead (or the person who was supposed to record your name misheard it...there are so many possible explanations for the variance!).

I don't plan on changing it at all. In fact, I'm keeping my character as close as possible to my 1.0 version. Maybe just a slight change in hair color (the tone of red).

Sorry, I didn't realize, but my post made it sound like I was referring to the name Jacien Visenad as if it WERE your legal name. I didn't mean to convey such -- my apologies. The yous and yours were meant to be directed at the character, not you personally. This is where one and ones are supposed to come in. Silly me.

Also, I am pleased to hear the you are not changing your character's name.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled despair over my name...

Edit: I am changing my hair to black and white, to be closer to my true (OOG) hair color (it is only marginally salt and pepper...but one day it will be Foxclon-worthy. I do aspire!)

Going full white? I love having highlights in just so I can be different. Especially the hairstyle I used, not many people used highlights. :P

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. I'm sure there were torturers who got to utilize this. Can't help but think of the end of Braveheart.
