I think you were missing the point of most of the battle system.
the lag issue is lag, it wasnt intentional i believe
Far as stamina, the whole battle system has a lot to do with controlling your stamina, your not actually supposed to go to 0 stamina unless for some reason you want to. you use dif skills, buffs abilities keeping in mind they have dif stamina costs, you keep certain stamina on hand for certain actions. the timers a generally longer, and not meant to stop you from doing any action, but meant to stop you from doing a specific action repeatedly.
I stopped at barely interactive lol
I'm nearly 30 in CON (my fiancee is the same in GLA). When do we encounter mobs that actually require the use of things like counters (to stop TP attacks), stuns, silence, etc.?
As of yet, the game has yet to throw anything at us that cannot be dealt with by the tried and true spank-n-tank.
When does the fun start?
(Hint: The fun should've started 28 levels ago.)

?? They had that exactly during Alpha and people hated it. And TC, assuming you haven't been living under a rock I'm gonna assume you know that battle changes are coming soon, what's the point of making this topic now?I was actually thinking of starting a discussion on the effects that removing the stamina gauge would have on the battle system. Perhaps this thread can serve as that discussion. Personally, I see no reason why they couldn't borrow the concept of a global cool down from another big name MMO to act as the limiter to action spamming. That could allow for the removal of the stamina gauge.
People always hate things for various reasons. Some I hear a lot is "It's not like FFXI" and "It's too much like WoW". Both were probably said in this case. I wasn't around for alpha, but I'm sure I would have liked it if I had experienced it.
Because I honestly find the battle system in the game so sluggish and boring that it's painful. I had to say something about it.
But yes, I know changes are coming and I hope they arrive sooner rather than later. I've been combing patch notes looking for changes to the battle system. The only reason I'm playing right now is to collect eggs, and I don't think that really classifies as "playing"...
Well the problem was at the time, for most people, that the global cooldown was too slow so it was longer between abilities which is why they changed it to constant button mashing with a depreciating stamina gauge. I don't know what I want but I agree with TC I want something more engaging and funner than what we have now, I'm hopeful its coming soon.
Then I guess the proper question here is was it a good move to go from GCD to Stamina? In my experience once the stamina gauge runs out, battle slows down to a halt. I can only imagine that the alpha GCD wasn't that slow. Perhaps they should have just shortened the GCD in stead of scrapping it.Well the problem was at the time, for most people, that the global cooldown was too slow so it was longer between abilities which is why they changed it to constant button mashing with a depreciating stamina gauge. Not really much of a battler myself but I've thought of something when reading about #5 in your post RichardButte, Couldn't both work if SE devs adjusts both to work together?. Like for example: ( every time the stamina is used from the bar it drains a little more and then the energy is transferred to actions/abilities to lessen the cool-downs count or something else. players would have to think fast and distribute wisely to whichever action/ability because the stamina bar stops regenerating after too long a battle.) what do you think? It's slow, cumbersome, barely interactive and just all around not fun.
5. Why do we have stamina AND cooldowns?!
One or the other would be fine, but why do we have both? The whole point of stamina would be to limit the number of actions a player can take within a certain period of time. The whole point of cooldowns is to...limit the number of actions a player can take within a certain period of time. The battle system doesn't need both stamina AND cooldowns. My vote would be for removing the stamina bar as it adds nothing to the game, since there is no semblance of "stamina management", just mash the button silly to ensure the attacks happen as fast as possible.
As it stands, I just can't see bothering to level to 50 in any class under the current battle system. It needs to do something to keep me awake through a fight and right now, it just doesn't.
